Fly on the Wall at Floyd’s First Friday
~ The first six photos in the series below appeared in The Floyd Press on September 9, 2010.
Lotus Yard wore a red dress to the Floyd’s downtown First Friday event. She enjoyed a fruit smoothie from the Black Water Loft and a barbeque sandwich at the BBQ stand with her mother.
Painter and poet from Norfolk, Jack Callan was a featured artist at The Floyd Artists Association in the Station.
A book signing of A Tea Poet’s Journey by local author Katherine Chantal took place at the Jacksonville Center. Tea and scones and other refreshements were served. Chantal signed a book for David Leith and Jayn Avery (pictured).
Floyd potter Ellen Shankin talks with a customer as another looks at her work. Shankin and woodworker Brad Warstler were featured artists for First Friday at Troika Gallery in the Station.
A clogging class was in full swing at the grand opening of the Back Porch Studio, a new dance studio on Locust Street.
An old-time band on the stage at the Dogtown Roadhouse fit right in with Floyd’s Friday Night Jamboree theme.
Vendors and shoppers mingled at the Friday Night Artisan Market under the Market Pavilion at sunset.
Loose Leaf reader Lauren from Richmond was in town for the Friday Night Jamboree on First Friday and recognized me from my blog. I was up on the Loft taking pictures and she spotted me from down below in the Jamboree crowd and came up to introduce herself.

I’m like Lauren — after reading your blog and enjoying your photos for years, I think I’d know you anywhere. But I’d have no doubt if I were in Floyd when I spotted you.

Hi Bonnie, You feel very familiar to me too. I just couldn’t believe that Lauren picked me out of a such a crowd. After she came up on the Loft deck she wanted to go inside and see where we do Spoken Word, which is when the picture was taken. It was a kick to meet her.
Another blogger friend once picked Josh out in Asheville when she recognized his hat from a photo I had posted.

I was just thinking how something is conspiring to keep us going to town more and more! It didn’t start out this way and I don’t go to half the events going on here.
Actually, I skipped the County Fair on Saturday (after Friday night’s Roadhouse fun). They had good weather for it till after noon when it started raining.
