13 Thursday’s Open Door Invitation
1. A light bulb is a moon wannabe and lightening is light’s wildlife (or should I say “wildlight”).
2. Best commentary title on the midterm election seen somewhere online this week: Obama’s 2010 “Shellacking” is Like Bush’s 2006 “Thumping.”
3. Silent and listen are the same word with the letters moved around.
4. I didn’t like the word CRASH in my word document folder last week. I knew it was just the title to THIS commentary (which just got published in The Roanoke Times newspaper) but it felt like a foreboding that my computer could crash.
5. I never noticed I was a noisy tea drinker until I ate breakfast in silence with 15 other silent people at a mindfulness self-care retreat over the weekend.
6. It’s not that I slurp but that I spontaneously let out a sigh with each enjoyable sip.
7. One of the best and most unforgettable dreams I ever had was walking through an illuminated golden door and feeling changed me forever. Soon after that I left my first marriage and met Joe.
8. On the morning of the last day of the weekend retreat, one of the facilitators said to the group, “Don’t go before you leave.” It made all the difference to those of us that already had one foot out the door.
9. We were encouraged to unplug at the retreat, which is why I referred to the laptop I brought as contraband.
10. Poem with a door in it called Free Leonard Peltier and the Japanese Tanka: Don’t squeeze syllables … into lines they’re not made for … Don’t pin a turned phrase under glass … Even a small unpredictable poem … can kick down a locked door … can climb over the top of the page. ~ Colleen
11. Jumping on my trampoline is a literal pick-me-up.
12. Song for keeping the big bad wolf from knocking at your door HERE.
13. THIS is the End.
More playing 13 Thursday HERE.

I could use a retreat right about now. Or a good jump on the trampoline will do! 🙂

That dream sounds very intriguing. I had unforgettable nightmares when I was young; thank goodness they did not come true!

I really like #3 and #6!!!!

I was hoping no one listened to the whole song to the intense part. I just like the chorus…this is the end and posted it as part of the “doors” theme.

#12 really really made me smile 🙂 Thanks for sharing that!

so much to ponder here.
I’m not sure I would like to have a silent breakfast in my house with my gang. It’s bad enough wo have to listen to their noises when it’s not quiet.

Hey Colleen, I just LOVED your article in the Roanoke Times! Giving the keys back to the ones who crashed the car. Excellent! Now what do we do? I’m afraid a seatbelt won’t help.

Thanks, Debi! I’m bracing myself.

3, huh, didn’t attend to that.
5, 6 you’re slurpy, I’m sloppy. I’m a cookie monster. crumbs around my plate while others are tidy.
8. valuable lesson to internalize. I’ll aim to stay in today the whole day.
