Feelin’ the Love at Floydfest 11
Grandson Bryce hams it up eating watermelon in the Beer Garden with his nana and opa.
There are staff golf carts and there are uncle’s backs for getting around the 80 acre Blue Ridge festival site. Everyone else walks.
The theme for this 11th year annual music festival was Lovers Rock and my son Josh and his girlfriend Christy really know how to rock it.
I did some dancing with Floyd family members Melody and Kim to the sweet sounds of Bruce Hornsby. THIS is what we were dancing to.
The nightlife in the Global Village was literally on fire with Scintillation Fire Troupe performing side show entertainment while American Dumpster played. Thanks to American Dumpster’s lead man Christian Breeden for the Village Vibe, which is like a mini Burning Man. There really is a burning man in the Village, a larger than life metal sculpture that is lit with fire at night, along with the famous Floydfest dragon wagon. You can see the scene and watch the dragon breathing fire in THIS video.
We spent a lot of time in the Children’s Universe on Sunday when the grand kids came. This is me and Christy fitting right in with the younger set, fooling around in the cool shade of the sandbox after Josh’s sunglasses broke. Watch the video clip HERE.
I was really impressed with this sanctuary for mothers and babies.
Liam got a flower from Evo-Latic troupe dancer Leia Jones as his mom and others looked on. He and Joe also got feathers in their hair.
Opa Joe and Bryce enjoyed some adventure play in the Beer Garden by one of Barb’s lily ponds.
There was so much good music this year, it’s hard to know where to begin. These are my friends Eli, Avar, and Kamala enjoying the performance of Alison Kraus from VIP onstage seats. Kraus came over to talk personally with Avar and she gave her a guitar pick. Listen HERE.
I call this the Where’s Waldo of Floydfest Hats. It was taken during a fun performance by Punch Brothers, featuring master mandolin player of Nickel Creek fame Chris Thile. Watch a video HERE.
More Floydfest hats.
I call this “Ma, I joined the circus.”
And here’s our traditional yearly family shot. Check out last year’s shot HERE. Read my post about Thursday night’s Jackson Browne performance HERE. Past Floydfest photos and stories are HERE.

[…] 3. Floydfest, our town’s blow-out music festival, becomes a lifestyle every July for four days. The day after this year’s festival, I was tired but could be heard saying, “I miss the food. I miss the music. I miss the people, the sights, the nightlife and the big sky. […]

[…] Drew and Jessica, who are both from Lynchburg, think it will be fun to celebrate their wedding anniversary every year at Floydfest. White said she doesn’t care about remembering the actual date. “Every Floydfest Saturday at 3:15, that’s when we’ll be celebrating,” she said. Post note: Watch a video clip of the wedding HERE.
