More Floyd Culture
All I can say is that it was strange to be working on a story about the Artful Ambiance of Floydfest for the local paper and a benefit American Championship Wrestling Show in the same weekend.
There was a lot of clowning (some caused by me getting too close to the ring with my camera), hissing, booing and cheering for favorites (a few local guys). The much anticipated women’s match in this video clip got so rough that it caused me to shut my camera off, but the crowd loved it.

I don’t enjoy watching women fighting. Well, I don’t like to see men fighting either, but I can force myself to watch that. 🙂

I don’t really know anything about wrestling except it seems totally insane to me and completely fake and stupid. What Is That About???

Here’s what I found in the wikipedia that was helpful:
Pro-wrestling is a mode of spectacle, combining athletics and theatrical performance. It takes the form of events, held by touring companies, which mimic a title match combat sport.
Originating as a sideshow exhibition in North American traveling carnivals and vaudeville halls, professional wrestling grew into a standalone genre of entertainment with many diverse variations in cultures around the globe, and is now considered a multi-million dollar entertainment industry.
The matches have predetermined outcomes in order to heighten entertainment value, and all combative maneuvers are worked in order to lessen the chance of actual injury. These facts were once kept highly secretive but are now a widely accepted open secret. By and large, the true nature of the performance is not discussed by the performing company in order to sustain and promote the willing suspension of disbelief for the audience.

OMG. What a weekend for you! Feature writing has always given me such great opportunities to see things I might otherwise miss. That is what I most like about it – the adventure. But that’s quite a range of activities.
I could not watch much of that video clip as I don’t like to see such things. I have always thought wrestling was more spectacle than actual fighting, but still I am not fond of brutality.
Great blog post, though.

The full crowd LOVED the theatrics and it was a benefit for a young man with cancer.
