Community Art Opening

The community came out in impressive numbers for the community-themed art opening at the Floyd Center for the Arts on a recent Saturday evening.
Arts supporter Rhonda Daiber gazes at a mixed media work by Barbara Gillespie. Gillespie’s piece began with a photo taken at Yoga Jam, which she decoupaged and painted on before adding cloth flowers.
A child attendee was taken by the paintings of Sydney Wellman.
The majority of Howard Wenger’s sculptures were drawn from live local artists who sat for the longstanding Floyd Figures Art Group over the years. Wenger is pictured to the left talking to artist Darcy Meeker (seated) and her husband.
Elizabeth Mears’s “Community of Family: Welcoming Hands” makes a bold statement in the Arts Center stairway and with “Paper Flower Garden” by Afternoon Arts as a backdrop.
“Garden Party: Frieda” was created with flamed copper and vitrea oils by Blacksburg artist Darcey Meeker.
Local artist Art Haase stands next to his “Self Portrait.” Other artists represented in the Community Sow include Charlie Brouwer, Kathleen Dawe, Christian DeMaria, Megan Elder, Henry Hardt, Winter Hart, Donna Hartpence, Tracie Jones, Michael Mears, Pamela Moore, Christiana Ohara, Renee Shaelyn, Starroot, Batya Weinbaum, Adija Wolf. Russ Young and students at Blue Mountain School. The show will be on display until November 25th. / Our World Tuesday
