Floyd Hometown Welcome for Morgan Wade
What can I say? I feel compelled to dance and compelled to record the occasion.
We got the $10 show price at Dogtown. They paid $30 the night before and more than that, I suspect, when she opened for Lee Ann Womack this month.
A lot has happened since Morgan first debuted her songs on the Dogtown stage around 2013. See Local Musician Called Up to the Big Leagues HERE. And HERE is an early days clip.
“I do not have a record out yet, so I do not have one for sale,” she said, adding that the record she made with Sadler Vaden (of the Jason Isbell band) is done, but the record label offers haven’t been decided yet. “I’ve spent the last three weeks saying that every night. I don’t have one yet. I’ll tell you that and there you go,” she told the crowd. So, no Christmas presents for you and for you, yet. And it seems that her first record, Puppets with My Heart, is out of stock.
Apart from Floyd’s own Joe Link on keyboard, the rockin’ band she played with is from Damascus, where she stays on her way to and from Nashville, where she’s moving to. The lead guitarist’s son on drums was only 14. The band from Maine, Chris Ross and the North, that opened for Morgan was really good too. I hope they come back to Dogtown.
I really wanted to upload and post one of the few newest songs that she sang, but the album isn’t out yet, so no can do. This song (above) is a from Puppets and the band does it justice.
It was a sold-out show and the crowd was rowdy, proud of the hometown girl. I was glad she sang a few solo songs that she doesn’t sing much anymore, like Kelly’s Drive, an all-time favorite emotional tearjerker that makes me feel sentimental. And I’m not the only one.

You know I hear that the music business is in the dumps but it sure seems that there a lot of really good people and bands out there performing great music of many different genres (and genre bending and blending) and I have hardly ever heard of any of them but enjoy listening to them.
