The Weekly Poem

The weekly poem
keeps track like a ledger

It’s on the shopping list
with bagels and butter

It’s a creative engagement
a news announcement

an exercise to keep me fit
that marks my place
as a working poet

“Working poet” is a nice thing to be… I think I work hard at my writing but it brings only joy no money! But it is up there with bagels and butter for sure!!

Glad we can assist you to be who you are!

  • 3 marja:

Love the poem to be up there with the bagels and butter. In my case often work got in the way but I’ve got more time now to put writing on the list

AS you indicate here dear Collin, that sense of structure and discipline is an essential part of being able to stretch creatively…

  • 5 Penelope Notes:

Ironically, one must be disciplined to write spontaneously it seems. 🙂

I’m working on a poem that is not coming easy and so I had to put it aside. Walking to the mail the thought ‘where is my weekly poem’ came to me and then this ditty spilled out like making a shopping list.

  • 7 Jennifer Wagner:

I’m glad you do! I enjoy your work and it’s good to read you again.

  • 8 Helen:

I love it when ditties spill out! Mine usually happen on daily walks or early mornings when awakening from a dream. I LOVE yours, Colleen. Cheers.

I agree with you, the weekly poem (or post) keeps track like a ledger.
I am always looking forward to posting that poem. 🙂
