Treed-In
I once loved an apple tree
filled with red fruit
in a hidden orchard in Eden
But now the maple trees
have grown large
They block out the sun
There’s no room to stretch
Now the wind has downed limbs
I’ve gone porous and gray
Now the land around me
is not the same
New golden flowers
have bloomed and taken over
They’re pretty to look at
but have crowded out the rest
Only one monarch butterfly
came to the orchard this year
I took its picture
to prove it was there

Beautiful Nature can grow a bit wild. Sad that there was only one butterfly. We used to plant swan plants to attract them.

A hidden orchard sounds compelling. Yes, trees block out the sun and sometimes that’s a good thing in three-digit heat.

That butterfly works as a metaphor for people who stop coming as life and we go through the changes… felt real.

I mentioned an apple tree too! There used to be so many of them, better apples than these poor replicates in markets. At least you had one monarch!

There may come a day when the monarch butterfly can be found only in books. Great musings on your poem of change. And some changes may not be for the better. 🙁
