Meet Virginia’s Next Governor

terrymc

At least that would be my preference and is what polls are predicting.   The Democratic candidate for Virginia Governor, Terry McAuliffe, called Floyd the “real capital of Virginia” when he spoke at the Friday Night Jamboree at the Floyd Country Store.  I arrived late, after babysitting my grandsons all day, and missed his brief stump speech from the stage, in which he praised Floyd for its music, culture and tourism.   Blue Ridge Muse’s Doug Thompson was covering the event and let me watch and listen to the video he shot, while McAuliffe was busy flat footing on the dance floor with the crowd.

The Floyd Country Store is a popular venue for political candidates.  Past Governors and Senators Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, and Jim Webb, and even Vice President Joe Biden, have all come to the Country Store, a place where music and cultures merge and down home fun prevails.

He looks like a GOOD Candidate….! And I like that he actually came to Floyd!

the “real capital of Virginia”…Really? Sounds like a good schmoozer, I mean politician. Does Woody bring all the politicos to town?

I’d like to vote for the libertarian candidate but I will vote for McAlliffe because I can’t bear the thought of another Republican governor.

Woody hosts the political candidates from both sides. He told me that he asks the candidates to keep their addresses short, sweet and friendly. Floyd is unique and is creating a buzz for its tourism, based on the mountain culture, local food, music and art. The Friday Night Jamboree at Country Store is a famous venue that’s been written about in the Washington Post and other major newspapers.
