"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

13: Wish You Were Here

1. “You’re only two years older than me darling, where have you been all my life?” – Supporting actor winner, 82-year-old Christopher Plummer addressing his Oscar statuette at the 84th annual awards.

2. Best description of Angelina Jolie’s leg at the Oscars:  She planted her hands on her hips and forcefully jutted her right leg out in front of her, like she was George Washington crossing the Delaware River. Poking out from a heavy, dark Versace dress, the slender right leg seemed to have a life of its own.

3. Another favorite line from the 2012 Oscar ceremony:  “I was genuinely starstruck when I met Kermit the Frog. Like many stars here tonight, he’s a lot shorter in real life.” — Bret McKenzie, who won best original song for “Man or Muppet:”

4. Poets are doodlers of prose and I don’t know why we don’t decorate all our prose with doodles. See HERE.

5. A poetry reading:  I work for homemade apple pie and ice cream.

6. I’m working on a story in which I use the word “dakini” and had to look it up.  All I can think of when I see the word is dancing in  bikinis and that’s not so far of what it means.

7. I’ve always thought Johnny Cash looked like Elvis meets Herman Munster.

8. Gettting an outfit ready for the Blue Mountain School’s Mardi Gras Ball is like preparing for an Adams Family prom.

9. Lost in translation and a waste of ink: This morning Joe just asked me to print out a copy of a grant I had just helped him to edit; only instead of hearing “print out a fixed copy,” I  heard “print out six copies,” and so I did.

10.  I was once into magnetic fridge poetry and am still finding words in the most unlikely places, like omens or fortune cookie messages and the one pictured above.

11. A new take on “Lady and the Tramp” HERE.

12. A new take on “Go Fly a Kite” HERE.

13.  “The soul should always stand ajar. Ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.” – Emily Dickinson

The Addams Family AND The Munsters in one post! Well done!!!

  • 4 Heather:

Loved seeing Plummer receive the Best Supporting Actor Award. I was rather surprised that there were only two songs up for Best Original Song this year. Were last years movies that lacking in creativity and originality??

    Happy Thursday.

  • 6 CountryDew:

    That was Joe’s fault!

  • 7 The Gal Herself:

Angelina and her leg certainly were intense, weren’t they? I loved those kites (though instead of that music I hear Bert the Chimney Sweep from Mary Poppins).

  • 8 Sherry:
