Got Blog Style?

I haven’t done an award meme in years, but I figured that receiving two Stylish Blogging Awards in one week was a sign, so I’ve taken up the challenge. According to the slightly varied instructions given at the blogs that so generously awarded me (Wendy at Herding Cats in Hammond River and Pearl from Humanyns), and like a rumor that changes as it gets passed along, I’m posting 7 random things that contribute to my personal style and passing the award on to 5 other stylish bloggers.

1. I used to make candles and studied iridology.

2. I was once chased by a bull while carrying a baby in my arms and dragging two young children out of the way. I still believe I willed that bull to stop.

3. I used to find it hard to resist drawing mustaches and bad hairdos on faces on magazine covers. I still find it hard to resist popping bubble wrap.

4. When I was 13 my hair went white in a streak of the left side of my head, including my left eyebrow. More HERE.

5. The first thing I remember wanting to do with my life was to join the Peace Corp.

6. I once jumped in a hole in the ice, naked after a sauna, and swam in a phosphorescence bay at night in Puerto Rico that lit up like dayglo with every move I made.

7. I can only sleep in silk. It regulates my temperature.

My Stylish Blogger Award recipients (feel free to pass it on but don’t feel obliged to) are:

Shaking the Tree: Becky posts head-turning photographs that I wish I took.

Marcie’s Daily Practice: I love to be surprised and have my eyes pop wide open.

Poe Cooper: I’ve had a longtime blog crush on Poe. She’s a poetic painter of words who shares a dream view into her inner life.

Country Dew: A smart and down to earth freelance writer. Country Dew is my Blue Ridge Mountain neighbor who inspired me in my early days of local newspaper writing.

Poetikat’s Invisible Keepsakes: I can feel the Irish in her poems. A bard at heart.

One Day at a Time: Tabor is always honest and thoughtful and sweet enough to pay someone to fill her birdfeeder every 4 days when she travels.

Oh, I am so with you on the bubble wrap…. I think there is some in the garage and I had had that compulsion really buried quite nicely before you posted this. Now… I am still resisting but….. it is so hard….. my feet are carrying me down the stairs and to the garage… oh, no… there it is…. stopppppp…….POP, POP, POP!

When out of bubble wrap, gum snapping will do. But sadly all the gum these days has aspartame in it.

Yikes, Colleen…chased by a bull? Glad you and the kids escaped that one without injury!

Thanks for the shoutout! Will enjoy checking out your nominees!

    Congratulations!

Wow, thanks Colleen! That is most appreciated! I look forward to checking out the other bloggers you mentioned – and maybe passing this on.

Thank you Colleen! This means the world to me! 🙂

  • 7 Miss Becky:

oh boy, I feel so undeserving of this but thank you very very much Colleen. It’s an honor to even be considered. In reading your list I laugh and feel a kindred spirit at the same time. I think you’re a lot of fun. I only wish I could have shared that Puerto Rican experience with you, it sounds like a dandy alright. and I accidentally step on bubble wrap a lot (I never pick up) and it scares the bejesus out of me each and every time, I swear at it, and then leave it there to only do it again in a few days. thanks for your encouragement and support, it means more than you could know. have a beautiful day Colleen!

Thans so much, Colleen! Coming from someone whose poetic works I respect highly, this is a fine tribute. Of course, being recognized for the Irish in my work, is to be prized even more.

PS Do you remember the time we walked Nantasket beach at night and saw the phosphorescent ??? That was totally amazing!

  • 11 colleen:

Yes, and I saw a lot of it in the Chesapeake Bay once. I also saw some at Zephyr Farm once. I think there are critters or plants that are phosphorescent.

I was chased and cornered by a bull, too. And I bet I jumped into the same icy pond after a sauna. I miss that sauna and the gatherings we had there. As for the gum– we sell several chewing gums with natural sweeteners at Eats.
