Yesterday’s exciting highlights:
A bird that sounded like a ringing cell phone flew into the house and couldn’t get back out. I was in the upstairs office when I heard it, and I nervously crept down the stairs to see what it was because I don’t own a cell phone.
My husband’s nephew, who was having trouble with his home-life, came to live with us for a couple of months this summer. Because he was recently a senior in high school, we began to get tons of college promotional mail in his name. Even though he is not planning to go to college any time soon and has moved out, we still get stacks of the stuff every day, which I promptly throw in the recycling bin. Yesterday, I noticed a bump in one manila envelope, and so I opened it up. There was no written information about the college from where the envelope originated inside. It was a single orange yo-yo with the name of the college inscribed on it. What a racket! I thought to myself, like putting a toy in a cereal box to entice kids to eat their sugar coated flakes.
“You’ve got to hand it to them. At least it’s original,” my husband later said, as I was demonstrating my yo-yo skills to him.
“Look, I learned how to make it “walk the dog,” I answered.
Do you have any exciting highlights to share?

No yo-yo’s in my life at present. I can share that I drank too much red wine last night and my head feels like a yo-yo.

My daughter is a high school junior and these colleges have gotten her name and address from the school. We get tons of promotional junk every day. I know what you mean. But nothing as creative as a yo yo. Did you get the bird out?

I’m afraid my exciting highlight yesterday was sitting at the table, inhaling the rich, yeasty aroma of baking bread. Not that it wasn’t great, but exciting? Probably not.

I can share that last night I was playing with the alarm clock I got for the guest room. It has some tranquil sounds you can listen to when trying to fall asleep, and in addition to a wake-up buzzer, it has all these noisy wake-up sounds, too… a crowing rooster, screeching seagulls, etc.
Anyway, I forgot that I had left the alarm turned on, so at 5:30 this morning the sound of seagulls was making its way down the hallway from the guest bedroom to our bedroom. In my half-awake state, I asked my husband, “What kind of bird is that outside? It’s been chirping for the past twenty minutes!” He said, “I don’t know.” Then we realized that it was neither a real bird nor outside. I’m surprised it didn’t wake the whole neighborhood, that’s how loud it was!

My big kiddles came over for a home cooked meal and I had a wonderful time with them….we even got to play wiffle ball (baseball), me and Nelson won.
PS I get the college mail too and what a pain!!! I can’t get over the yo-yo being sent!
PSS TO LU, When I first started leaving comments here, I had trouble too….It doesn’t show up instantly, so wait it out and eventually the comment will be there.

I also got bumped for “questionable content” commenting on my own blog, and so didn’t Lu once. I found out it doesn’t like word “…..” (going on the internet). I think this might be related to “sexual predetors?” I took out the one sentence that had the word and it took ok. Lu’s post had the word …… in it too. So don’t say …… on my blog!
I did get the bird out, but it took awhile. I had to open all the doors and windows. I never heard a bird make a sound like that.
Jeanne, your story is a riot! And it had birds in it too.
Of course I was using the term “exciting” sort of in jest.

You realize that nowadays saying a bird sounds like a cell phone begs the question, “Which ring tone?” 🙂
Yoyos. Egads. So how else do they spend the tuition money?
Yesterday’s (well, Tuesday’s) highlight for me became today’s lengthy entry. Was thinking of your post that mentioned CFS and the pros and cons of disclosure.

Well I’m glad someone cleared up which word it was that we’re not supposed to use. 🙂
I like that you posted about highlights of your day, even if (as you hinted) they weren’t extremely exciting. It’s great fun to sit at the dinner table and have everyone discuss their highlights… the older I get, the simpler they become … and the simpler they become, the more content I seem to be.
Yesterday, for example, I experienced a half hour or so of non-pain from my current bout of bronchitis. Woo hoo… I all but danced around my living room!
