13 Thursday: A Little Bird Told Me
1. There are mornings that I’m glad to wake-up just so I can get some rest. Last night I dreamt that I got lost in city, was the lead in a play, had several costume changes, wore high heels, and forgot my lines.
2. Number 33 on my list of 100 Things About Me reads: If I was a bird my call would be A LOUD YAWN.
3. My current favorite spring quote is a Chinese proverb, found in the April issue of The Museletter, Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the singing bird will come.
4. I don’t trust send-out film developing in the same way I don’t trust checking my baggage at an airport. I usually travel with just carry-on and use 1 Hour photo developing.
5. Sometimes the click of the mouse reminds me of Dorothy’s shoes in The Wizard of Oz and what the good witch told her to do. (Especially now that I have DSL.)
6. How do you fix your reading glasses when they fall apart and you’re trying to thread the screw into the frames but you can’t see the hole because you need to put your glasses on to see it?
7. I don’t rip potato chip bags open with my teeth anymore, but I can use my fingernails as a screwdriver in a pinch, I just discovered.
8. Why isn’t everyone reading Vanx at Verb-ops? In Jeopardy style, here’s part of a comment I left on one of his recent posts; see if you can guess what the entry was about: Captivating! Dealers in suits, a Pandora’s Box, a Museum of Water, Capote! Yeah for the advocates!
9. I’d second mortgage my house to buy the right pair of waterproof walking shoes or boots that I can walk a city block in or hike a trail and not look out of place. When it comes to shoes I think women are discriminated against, or more to the point, we’re stereotyped. And I think this business about changing shoes for every kind of activity is a capitalistic plot.
10. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice recently admitted that the Bush administration had made THOUSANDS of mistakes in Iraq. Hearing her say that was almost as satisfying as when she was forced by the 9/11 commission to quote the White House memo, “Bin Laden determined to strike inside the U.S.,” thereby admitting that the administration wasn’t as clueless (or shouldn’t have been) as they made out about the likelihood of an attack. But who will be held accountable?
11. Columnist, Art Buchwald hasn’t let being near the end of his life dampen his creativity. From his Washington hospice, he recently wrote, “An Ice Day for a News Conference,” in which he envisions President Bush holding his first news conference to address global warming and announces “mission accomplished” on the good ship Titanic.
12. Fun Found at L(amb): Google your name and then hit images and see all the other people who have your name…or spend hours looking at alternative family members and old boyfriends via the same method.
13. More fun found at Deana’s: She made this (to the right) at Image Chef . It takes my label gun to a new level.
Post Notes: Click on my 13 Thursday sidebar icon to meet some new 13 Thursday friends and visit Nicole for the game plan. My other 13’s are here. Posting may be erratic this weekend. We plan to visit my Asheville potter son who loves the Red Sox.

okay, I’ve got to stop putting my URL in the e-mail box!! AGH!!
AMEN on the shoes, Colleen. I totally agree with you. I am a slight shoe addict, however, and it’s hard for me to not have too many…
happy Thursday!

Thanks for the links.
I love that proverb.
Accountable? Who me? Not me, it must be them….
It will be a great day if someone takes responsibility, but I’m not holding my breathe!
I’m playing.

Amen, girlfriend! About the shoes, about Condi Rice, about the birdhouse, and about the Wizard of Oz!

How fun – how much we have in common with our 13’s this week!
Of course politically, I tend to disagree at least a little bit – because as much as our current administration is to blame and it would satisfy so many if they said “It’s my fault”, the fact is that the previous administration knew about it and so much more and never did a dang thing to take preventative measures. There was no hunt for Bin Laden when he attacked the WTC the first time, or the second time – and that the current admin. should shoulder all the blame is not a fair thing to ask. It wouldn’t be fair to ask that of anyone. On the “other side”, we do not expect all of the blame to lie on the previous administration, blame is evenly spread across many people that were elected into office who failed to work together in a cooperative effort to protect our country as a whole, including our current administration. It’s the division of “sides” that contributes to our weakened country, and too many people use this division to further separate our citizens through politics.

I’m not blaming the Bush Administration for 9/11 as much as for Iraq. I don’t believe we have any business being there and the fact that we are has made things worse all around. I think the Bush adminstration has been the worst in modern times (too long to elaborate here) and to point it out doesn’t feel like taking sides, just saying what it is as I see it.
That said, Counter Terrosits experts and high-ups in the CIA have said that the Bush adminstation ignored warnings given by Clinton Administration about terrorism, and as I recall Clinton did use airstrikes trying to hit Bin Laden at one point.

# 10.
And just think, Condoleezza Rice was only responding to what she got cornered on. What would she say to the NO PLANE theory? i.e., no plane hit the Pentagon, despite what we’ve been told. The Bush administration will never admit to such a thing, nor will people believe it readily. Hopefully the “911 truth movement” at some future date, will get it out.
# 13. Love the fortune cookies.
Have fun in Ashville.

I hear sort of your nr. 6 from my husband when he is looking for his glasses…can’t see them without them on… I don’t trust checking my baggage either! and hated turning film in when my boy was little and I was afraid they were going to either loose or ruin the film with his baby pictures… Thanks for visiting my TT

I so enjoy your 13 Thursday posts. I can oh so relate to #6. My right lens seems to be popping out all the time. I have often thought.. how am I supposed to fix this when I can not see to fix it.
April 6th, 2006 2:55 pm
I had to try #5 a few times to see if I could hear it LOL!

There is an obvious connection between your high heels in the dream (#1) and your feeling that women are stereotyped when it comes to footwear (#9). What would Sigmund Freud have to say about that? Better yet, what would Lucien Freud have to say? By the way, you’re too good to me (#8)!~,:^)

I love wacky dreams! They are so fun!
Happy Thursday!

I like the proverb
My 13 is up.
April 6th, 2006 6:06 pm
Goodness…I know what you mean about needing to get up just to get some rest. I haven’t slept well all week worried about a professional event I’m involved with tomorrow.
Thanks for visiting my TT. Happy Thursday!

Very interesting TT! 🙂 I did it too.
April 6th, 2006 6:34 pm
Great list! My bird call would be a loud yawn too. I never feel like I’ve had any sleep. My TT is up!

Lots of goodies with this list! I loved the sign-maker, and my husband and I had fun Googling others with our names (though there was no one with mine, either in my maiden or married name). I don’t trust send-away film developing either, and instead opt for digital processing on my own computer. And the Bush administration? Yeah, they really, really need to go.
April 6th, 2006 8:31 pm
Great 13. I love shoes, too, but it would be nice if I could get walking shoes that LOOKED as nice as they feel!
April 6th, 2006 9:50 pm
Your dream tickled me. I hope to remember the nice proverb. Snap Fish is great for prints off your digital camera. I am going to visit Verb-Obs.
Those new plastic clog shoes in bright colors or black with the holes are supposed to be the bomb. They say they conform to your foot and dry in an instant if they get wet. I’ve heard not to get the off brand or it isn’t the same. They sell them at the “Good Life” in Mount Airy but I can’t remember the brand name. They run about $30 and you see them everywhere now on adults and kids.
And I am still pouting over the DSL….oh and thanks for the mention! Have fun with your son….he likes the right team!

Just copied your chinese proverb into my journal. THanks!
