Behind the Scenes Eavesdrop
Now about that pesky little thing called an inferiority complex…Who wants the attention…It’s too much pressure…I can’t live up to it…Who the heck do I think I am…?
“I wonder if everyone has one,” I asked by friend Mara, “and they’re just covering it up better than we are?”
“Either that or they’re arrogant egotists,” she answered.

I’m afraid people would laugh if I said I had an inferiority complex….I’d be more the arrogant egotist.
The only time I ever have a confidence issue is when I am among Martin and other writers talking….then I feel really stupid. The lawyers, judges don’t bother me… just the one’s in the writing business or similiar. I think it is the envy of the language skills and how well you guys can represent yourselves that makes me feel just plain dumb at times.

It’s not who I am. I think of it as an underlying aspect in the mix and probably genetic as well as learned. I don’t believe it, but it can still effect me. Oddly, overly confident people (arrogant egotists) have bigger inferiority complexes that they are over-compensating for than those who appear less confident. Maybe a little inferiority complex is a good thing to keep us humble?
Big stuff to think about.
PS sometimes writers write because they’re no good at talking.

I have a wicked inferiority complex…but I’m pretty sure it’s warranted!

Yup! I’m one of those people who can write what I’m thinking better than I can speak it. I think it’s because my mouth sometimes works faster than my brain!LOL
Lots of confidence issues here…but my mother is the same way. Learned/genetic…I think it’s a little of both.
BTW…we just got back yesterday from Asheboro, NC. We went to the zoo there. It was beautiful out that way!

Hi Tammy, I’ve been to that zoo! We went on a trip with the folks with disablities that I work with.

I think most people have an inferiority complex but they are all for different reasons and certainly a lot of people are better at hiding it than others!

That was fun and no truer words were ever spoken!!

Inferior? Moi?

Your comment above reminds me of this quote that I really like “”The biggest cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid people are so sure about things and the intelligent folks are so full of doubts.” Bertrand Russell
I also think of that quote whenever our president speaks.

I’ve heard it said that some people who ham it up on stage are shy offstage. In many ways that applies to me, too. I enjoy public speaking and giving readings, but actually going out and mingling is often a challenge for me.

I was charmed to be re-introduced to my inferiority complex recently. It’s nothing to fear. In fact it’s a good head-correcting mechanism.

I was saying just the other day that I’m grossly overprotective of my own inferiority complex. It beats the alternative, I reckon.
