13 Thursday Lunacy
1. Now that cell phones are popular, I don’t even have to try to hide the fact that I talk to myself in the car while I’m driving. I just pretend I’m on the phone.
2. When my house gets messy it’s not a sign of a poor work ethic as much as a result of a strong one because housework is not the work I do, but writing is.
3. My thinking is directly related to my writing. I couldn’t stop writing anymore than I could stop thinking.
4. Last Thursday I wrote that having the same blog entry up for more than a day, makes me feel like getting caught out in public wearing the same clothes 2 days in a row. Mar from Maremagnum commented, “I feel like I am having guests and offering leftovers.”
5. I memorize prayerful passages and repeat one in meditation each day. I don’t like the kind of meditation practice where you’re supposed to focus on your breath because the more I focus on it the more I forget how to breathe.
6. Sometimes I think that I’m clinically clumsy. But I stop being clumsy when I dance, the way people who stutter don’t stutter when they’re singing.
7. I write poetry by ear like a musician who doesn’t read notes can still play music.
8. Once, on a cold winter night, I fell in love with a little space heater that reminded me of R2D2. I think there was an illicit substance involved.
9. I decided that getting invited to the New Orleans Jazz Festival with backstage access (as I was last week) is like getting nominated for an award that I don’t have to actually win, which means that I won’t be going but was happy to have been asked.
10. Steven Colbert is President Bush’s court jester. Colbert, who spoofs talk show hosts O’Reilly others like him recently lampooned President Bush at a White House Press Correspondent’s Dinner. Here’s some of what Colbert said, as reported by “Editor and Publisher” Colbert, who spoke in the guise of his talk show character, who ostensibly supports the president strongly, urged Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, “and reality has a well-known liberal bias.” Also lampooning the press, Colbert complained that he was “surrounded by the liberal media who are destroying this country, except for Fox News. Fox believes in presenting both sides of the story – the president’s side and the vice president’s side.”
11. “The lie of the emperor is always believed before the truth of the peasant” is one of my favorite quotes, displayed on my refrigerator.
12. Last year I was developing a list of interview questions for a family genealogy project. During that time I dreamt the following interview question: “If I gave you a sponge, what would you do with it?”
13. Keep your hand on that mouse. “Words at Play,” just for fun, is here.
All Things 13 are here, except for the ones that are here.

How’s New Orleans doing? i loved it there, but haven’t been back recently. Where did you go backstage? Jazz fest?

Pretty T13 header! Your TT is always a pleasure to read. I think I am the exception to the rule: I am clumsy when I dance too! thanks for mentioning my name and comment, I feel very honored! My real name is Marcela (with one l), feminine form of Marcel. It comes from Mars, the Greek god of war but I am a peaceful person! I like the word game of using only Mar, a variation very used in Spain which means “sea” in Spanish. Happy Thursday!

I’m usually clumsy, too, and tend to talk to myself- my tt is up

Love no.11.
I didn’t get to change my post yesterday morning and it worried me all day. I just feel behind when I get off schedule and I hate for friends to visit and I have nothing new to share….so I love your analogy.
I wish you were going to New Orleans….you would make us feel like we were there too with writings.
Everytime I see a sponge I want to dip it in bright paing and dot it on a wall…..like yellow on royal blue…or blue on tangerine. I’d love a wall like that….Maybe one day I’ll have no fear and do the walls of my den.
HAve a good day Colleen!

Great 13, and I love your graphic!
I love that quote in #11!
Happy TT!

If someone gave me a sponge…. I would probably clean, but what would I clean? That would depend on the type of sponge.
I saw a quote quite by accident yesterday that was funny, then made me stop and think: “I wish there were a button to increase the ‘intelligence’ on TV. I tried the ‘Brightness’ button but it didn’t work.” ~ Unknown

LOL at the cell phone comment. Maybe I should carry my phone with me, too.
I keep blog entries up for 1-3 days, usually, because I feel guilty blogging instead of working on my book. Anyway, I don’t want people to miss an entry because I work hard on each one.
I’m definitely clumsy–even when I dance. In fact, the last time my husband turned on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack during a housecleaning session and then urged me to dance with him, I bloodied his lip with the top of my head almost immediately!
LOVE the Stephen Colbert quotes. I need to look into that story more. I’ve heard some buzzing about it, but no details yet. I just love those Daily Show people.

Have a good day.

Thanks for making me laugh! 🙂
I bet New Orleans was quite an experience! I’d love to go.
May 4th, 2006 12:53 pm
I never hid that I talk to myself in the car. Maybe people would look me in the eye if I had.
May 4th, 2006 1:23 pm
As a student of applied behavioral science studying to become a therapist, I just love that sponge question posed to the family! We have had to do our genograms and family of origin work, and the question is rich with meaning to me. It’s funny, and yet may shed insight. Great TT list!
May 4th, 2006 1:46 pm
#4 was funny! I talk to myself in the car and I answer myself, too…and it’s OK because of cell phones! 🙂

I just wish I had enough to post about daily!
May 4th, 2006 2:53 pm
What a delightful visit. I caught up on this T13 and last thursdays. Colleen you are a delightful spring breeze. You have an incredible mind girlfriend. I feel guilty if I don’t post every day too.
May 4th, 2006 3:12 pm
I feel the same way about missing a day. DId you see teh entire Stephen Colbert video? It is well worth watching!
My T13 is up.
May 4th, 2006 4:26 pm
If you post on your blog daily, when can you write your next book? Life gets in the way. In my case lately I’ve three concentrations- (1)writing my 20 page paper for my graduate course (due in two weeks) and (2)working diligently at rehab to be able to pitch to my Challenger team,(3)making a living. I figure I owe the blog twice a week, three times max. Seriously, give me (us?) a preview of your next book.
May 4th, 2006 4:50 pm
I would cut the sponge into the shape of a fish and give it to a child to play with.
I love the quote about the emperor. So appropriate for today.
May 4th, 2006 5:00 pm
I always enjoy your Thursday 13. I loved the one about Stephen Colbert!
May 4th, 2006 5:08 pm

May 4th, 2006 10:46 pm
I love number 7.
When I have the same post up for more than a day, it usually means I’ve remembered to shower and brush my teeth at some point over the last twenty-four hours.
May 5th, 2006 8:56 am
Colleen, I cant wait to come visit Floyd and enjoy tea and chat with you in person. I am still concidering the collage thing but life is pretty hairy right now- Actually so is my car but they tell me she may not be fully dead. http://redqueenaffair.blogspot.com/2006/05/bella-down.html
Have a blessed week.
May 5th, 2006 11:04 am
LOL @ #1; I’m guilty of that too. re: #11: love that quote!
May 6th, 2006 9:17 am
I am LATE this week! As always a great 13. I loved reading about the collages, COOL! I bet you were the coolest MOM.
Love the quote.
Have a good weekend.
May 8th, 2006 8:13 am
Loved #1, that was my first laugh this morning!
#4 gave me pause to think, and feel very guillty indeed. I can’t always update on a daily basis, and it usually leaves me feeling quite annoyed with myself.
Loved reading your insight on things. this is a most refreshing 13!
