Around the Block

We used to think hay bales were put there by farmers for Andrew Wyeth to paint.

Note: All the photos were taken in our Blue Ridge Parkway neighborhood, except the pool closing one. The dog is Jazzy, chow, inherited from our son Dylan. I think he should have named her Aslan.

    Gorgeous misty mountain blues…

Well, you know how sometimes things hit you and make a seemingly lasting impression?
Seriously now, I fear that I may never look at a field of hay bales again and not consider a psychological profile with regard to the “hay cutter” based on your very observant interpretation.

I remember when the round bales first started showing up around this area and I loved them….I still do. They are a thing of beauty (though my nose and eyes would disagree)
Who is that big fuzzy dog? I am guessing it is a Chow but it looks so big!
Pleasing, serene photographs, though the closing of the pool always makes me a little sad.

Great photos and excellent tags. Very appropriate! Really enjoyed them….especially that pooch.

I was trying to find some different shaped hay bales to photograph for a “rugged individualist” sort of shot, but there were none around here! The dog is Jasmine, yes chow. We inherited her from my son Dylan. I think Jazzy should have been called ASLAN.

colleen- i enjoy your blog! i happened to it from fred’s site. whenever we go by a field of the haybales covered in white, i tell my 4 year old son that it’s a field of giant marshmallows.

    Or sugar covered shredded wheat!

Love those pictures of the bales of hay. Particularly the one where they are sitting by themselves, ready for something in a rather lonely way…
    And your Doggie…very very sweet!

Love the random hay bales. I think it is so weird, still, to see them round. They used to square. I hating putting up hay!
    Love those mountians.
My digital camera is slowly dying….WAH!!!

I’ve never put up hay, but my son Dylan has. I wrote the opening line about Andrew Wyeth after a trip to Vermont 30 years ago!

do you know that most farmers are deciding to stop using round bales? it’s because the cows aren’t getting a square meal! 🙂 (these things are what you hear when your sister is an agriculture teacher!)

  • 12 Janet:

    Aslan would’ve been perfect 🙂
I love taking pictures of hay bales!

  • 13 Ginnie:

I remember being delighted the first time that I saw the rolled bales. They are so much more attractive than the old block ones. I love your reference to Andrew Wyeth.

  • 14 srp:

Love the “perspective” picture. You can certainly tell why they called them the “Blue Ridge” Mountains.

  • 15 tongue in cheek:

Thank you for coming by my blog, and for your kind words, i am glad Josphine sent you, Blue ridge mountain girls!
I want to dive into this blueness!

  • 16 Carmi:

Happy sigh. Your lens is as rich as your words.
Popped by from Michele’s tonight. I hope you’re weathering the storm well. It WAS heading for WV, wasn’t it?

  • 17 Rick:

I’d like to see Andrew Wyeth paint the dog.
What a view in your neighborhood. I must get down to Floyd some day. I’ll sleep on a hay bale.
