High Noon
“If it’s this hot in late September, I wonder what it’s like here in summer.” Colleen to Joe
Day 2, The Outer Banks: The roar of the ocean is not like holding a shell to your ear. The magical illusion of the ocean’s color in evening has given way to muddy green. The shells and stones have lost their glint. At high noon, it’s too hot to be interested in them.
High noon is the time of day when wars are started, duels are fought, and a dip in the ocean is required to get out of the heat. That is, if I can make it past the giant breakers. If I can survive being thrown like a stick in the eye of a storm, sucked under like a dish rag going down the drain of a sink.

You’re experiencing the effects of those two big tropical storms hundreds and hundreds of miles away…nothing else brings home the sheer power of the ocean. You don’t just see it…you feel it! Your description is perfect!

Barry! (my cousin who got the weather-loving gene like my brother Jim had and moved south of here for the hurricanes) I’m sitting on a sidewalk in Kill Devil Hill picking up wireless. This post was written yesterday. Today was calmer. I’m in my element and thinking of you! Can you believe, this is my first time in the Outer Banks!

I hope you didn’t get tossed around like that!
I would love to be vacationing in the Outer Banks right now! Your pictures are beautiful.
Cheers to you and Joe!

Ah, a mere 5 hours from me, Colleen. I wish I could be there too. Did you climb Jockey’s Ridge yet?

Oh how I miss the ocean, but would miss the mountains more.

Jockey Ridge! Biggest sand dune in the eastern part of the country! That will be my next post when I get a chance to type it. I haven’t been able to visit blog friends…but hope to soon!

Love the description! So far this year you’ve seen more tropical storm effects than we have. Happy rejuvenation.

Oh, my love, my love, the mysterious Atlantica!
It sounds like you’re getting the full expereince of the beach.
If you think it’s hot there, you’d melt here. Just had to boast, you know, like it’s something special to be somewhere so hot you want it to rain…

Take care and watch those rip currents. Apparently they are particularly bad due to the hurricanes that have been around Bermuda.

You paint a picture with your photograph and you paint an even more wonderful picture with your words…
Just amazing, Colleen.
