Fall Leaves its Mark
1. The leaf within
2.The youngest among us
3. Impressionable
4. Food for thought
5. As far as the eye can see
Update: My WVTF radio essay “Born to Blog” will air on Public Radio this Friday at 6:55 and 8:55. I’ll post the text here over the weekend, but you can hear it now at their website, HERE.

I thought you were being awful stingy with your 2nd leaf but I get it with the heading! Nice list today! Poor old leaves, seems only yesterday they were lush, green and full of pride!

What a wonderful photigraphic essay, my dear….I LOVE seeing all those leaves…That first one is quite extraordinary!
And the picture of ALL the leaves just “there”, is Awesome!

I’ve seen lots of leaves like that first one this year. They are so cool looking- my son and I gathered a bunch to preserve.

Really enjoyed the intuitve captions Colleen. Unfortunately I have only to look out any window in the house and see the same aftermath of your closing photo…and I just cleaned the damn yard three days ago! lol…..Why am I laughing????

PS….I enjoyed listening to your blogging essay. I thought your expressed feelings of blogging to the “ever attentive” libraian was well conveyed.
November 15th, 2006 9:57 am
Thanks, Alan! I wonder if the real librarian will recognize herself? The piece was written over a year ago! They cut a few lines. A couple may have improved the piece but there was one set up line that I wish they hadn’t cut.
I don’t even try to rake until spring. I let the winter break the leaves down first. I am so off the beaten track, not a sould would notice either way. (Well maybe the UPS man?)

Colleen, that essay you read was charming and your voice is so well-suited to radio. Thanks for posting the link to it. I recognized your description of Vanx and Naomi, but I am not so sure about the other one….lol

Do you want the backstory? The first time I read the essay I was so nervous that I was breathless. I read it a second time with the technician out of the room, and that helped a lot. I’m amazed that you can barely detect my discomfort.
The 3rd blogger mentioned is Keda (http://mamahog.blogspot.com/). The sentence I miss, which was cut, was the set up to that list of 3 bloggers who give me a glimpse into lifesyles that I otherwise wouldn’t know about. Also, I wrote the piece a year ago before I knew the scope of Naomi’s talent.

The fall leaves have many secrets,
hide many stories and tell but a few.

Love these pictures. All of our leaves came down with the wind storm this weekend. But, our weather has been in the sixties and sometimes seventies. Not so good for Maine!

So, cool, Colleen! Congrats! Listen to you blogging on the radio!

I love the forlornness of these images. Fall isn’t just about the colors. It’s about what’s left behind, too.
Beautifully illustrated once again. Can’t wait to tune in!

I love the first one best, and the titles, and the effect of the series. 🙂

I truly enjoy your blog – I started to listen to your Radio broadcast, but my AOL player kept skipping – buffering issue?! I can’t wait to see your transcript.
take care,
Rebekah

Congratulations! I am definitely going to visit this link. Thank you for sharing this so we can check it out.
I hope you’re having a wonderful day, it’s stormy as Neptune here today!

My comment didn’t come through yesterday…The first pic looks like a copper pin my mom used to have which makes me think of the caption, “Nature’s jewels”.
I love the 3rd..looks like a shadow..”A shadow of its former self”
The fourth..”Mottle Mania”!

Wonderful photo essay! My dial-up is still loading the NPR piece, but I’ve been able to hear the first few sentences so far. It’s great matching a voice to the words I read here — I look forward to hearing the rest!

Love the photos, Colleen. I tried to listen but wasn’t able to. I’ll try again tomorrow….darn it, I wanna hear it too!

I was patient and it paid off….I DID just hear it.
Colleen….that was superb! WOW! I’m impressed….you sounded so professional. Very well done and I enjoyed it a lot.
