MOON
We think the earth could be transformed, if somehow you could lift people up to the moon. Or even out into space and let them see…We think that the bickering and fighting and hostility is a big waste of man’s inner energy. ~ Astronaut James Irwin
No taxes
No traffic
No parking lots
No malls
The moon is full
of none of these
No power lines
No landfills
No pepsi
No phones
The moon is full
of none of these
Not pizza
Not pie
Not hamburger
or cheese
I’m relieved
that the moon is full
of none of these

For me your prose speaks a painful truth to which I often relate. It is difficult at times, even at the expense of our soft lives and its conveniences, to not yearn for even just a brief moment on a virgin earth free of humanity and humanities shadow.

You wrote that? What a cool direction to take the concept of full moon.

It seems to be pretty much of a blank slate for everything. Not a bad thing!
Lovely photo!

Great writing, and lovely photo. But are you sure the moon wasn’t hitting your eye like a big pizza pie. … and tickling your muses?

Oh, I like that.
Can the moon be full of chocolate mousse?

I needed to read that poem and I agree with Astronaut James!

Wonderful poem. If that is this week’s moon, it was big and beautiful wasn’t it?

It was taken Tuesday evening up on the Parkway, the night before the complete full mmmmoon. I wrote the poem in the late 80’s. It was once part of a performance Women of the 7th Veil (local improv movement and poetry troupe) did all about the moon.

Irwin was very smart! I remember the astronauts talking about the “big blue marble” of earth and how awe-inspiring it was to see it from space. Too bad we can’t all see it from that perspective, no?

Sounds like a nice place. Kind of like it used to be here in rural Georgia before the influx of folks ‘not from around here’. But you can’t blame them for wanting to get away from all that stuff you listed. Except for taxes, of course… But now that the population has grown so much, the pristine land is disappearing, and we have more traffic, parking lots, power lines, landfills…
Thanks for sharing your poetic insight! Have a great weekend.

That was wonderful!

Your photography is outstanding. I remember on Wed. night being awed by the full moon very low in the sky. I agree completely with the sentiment of your poem.
