Full Moon Insomnia
I.
The moon is like a jewel
under my pillow
Like the princess
and the pea
I can’t sleep
II.
I’m trying to sleep
but the moon has other plans
I follow its bouncing ball orbit
like reading subtitles in a foreign film
It says: Wake up and write this all down
before you lose such good reception
I’m a night-shift stenographer hired by the muse
to take down the moon’s business
Post note: The above poem was originally published in We’Moon sometime in the 90’s.

Hi Colleen, what a great poem, I was having some trouble sleeping myself, due to the half moon which came out after the bad weather passed last night around 330 am, I love going around to the different windows in my house & looking out at the moon to see where it is now.

I was having trouble sleeping because of thinking about that little Floyd boy who just died from a brain tumor. http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/106907 And because I had a big day out in Christiansburg yesterday and ate too much too late.
Half moon? I know we not only share the same moon but the same Floyd weather. The moon is full tomorrow! I especially love when I see it in the daytime.

Hard to see through the cloud cover, is it full tommorow? it certainly didn’t look it last night!

i remember reading part of that before…i enjoyed getting to read the whole poem…very enchanting! i wrote a song about the same thing way back when…about how the moon beckoned me when “my thoughts got to big for my room”…i’ve never put it to music, though.

I had completely forgotten that I posted this poem before in the first week of blogging (March 05)! http://looseleafnotes.com/notes/2005/03/i_yield_for_poetry.html. I have used the last line in bios and other places. The photo, which I actually took during last month’s full moon reminded me of this old poem.

The moon pushes and pulls more than the tide.

I LOVE this poem Colleen…it is really a perfect poem for me…..! Thanks for posting it…It is interesting that the full moon can cause all sorts of energy things to your body/mind/spirit…, includingnot being able to sleep!

Dear Dear Colleen..YOU are so right! It was “ADAPTATION”…Well, I posted that at 3:30 in the morning…So, I hope I’m forgiven…LOL! I think I was thinking, ‘alcohol’ and that wonderful little tribute to the writer’s process certainly made many references to writer’s who drink/drank….at least in Hollywood! Thanks for the correction, my dear.

Very interesting.
The funny thing is, I have been captivated by the moon over the last several nights – how strange.

Hi Colleen, Nice poem,
I often sit outside in the summer just staring at the stars and moon.

I like the way the house seems to have eyes.

This is before you found your little night mask right? I pulled out my satin sleep mask last night because the moon had the room so lit. Amazing how those little masks save you! (The moon however was very pleasant and comforting while I was reading last night)

Great poem. I’m not often bothered by insomnia, but can sure understand how that full moon can cause it. All that energy is capable of many things.

Cool that you posted this on a Full Moon! I have had that feeling too..I love the stenographer phrae because sometimes lines come so quickly, I feel like I’m being dictated to by some source other than me and I’m the medium!

That you posted this on a full moon works well because the 3rd is the night that the moon goes black as it is eclipsed by the earth!
