Hello
Hello my name is Colleen and I’m wearing a white wrist band with blue stars on it. It’s funny how a wristband can either mean that you probably had some fun last night or that you have recently been in the hospital.
I got my first manicure on Friday. It was for a story I’m writing for a newspaper magazine insert on skin care. My nails were rough and dirty from digging potatoes when I went to the spa to get them done. I said to the woman, “I guess I’m not the type who cleans the house before the maid comes.” I’ve never had a maid, but I never had a manicure before this either, so I think the analogy holds.
The manicurist rubbed so much cream on my hand that my wedding ring came off. Once in the winter when my hand was cold it fell off into the snow. It was nighttime and we had to wait till the next day to find it.
Last night I dreamt that my back hurt. When I woke up it really did. I wonder if it had anything to do with the dancing I did last night. Once the band starts playing, I don’t sit down until they stop. But when they take a break and start up again, I’m usually too tired to dance the second set. I snap my fingers when I dance, but only the ones on the left hand. The right hand fingers can’t snap and I don’t know why.
This morning my hand is writing a short piece for a Sunday Scribbling . The prompt is “Hello My Name is …” I thought I would write more about my name, or maybe the band I danced to last night, but this is what came out when I started to write. Maybe my hand was feeling cocky because of the manicure and wanted to show off, even though just one day later my nails are dirty again.
The name of the band is Sonic Safari. The name of the polish on my nails is called Privacy Please. Today I’m going to Roanoke to visit my son Dylan and his family. I wonder if I should wear my wristband.
So what does your hand want so say?

Hi, Colleen! Michele sent me.
My hand is being shown discipline this morning, as I’m catching up on stuff I’ve put off for WAY too long. That’s a cool prompt, though. I’ve created some fiction for Weekend Wordsmith that I’ll be posting later today, or I’d tackle that one. It’d be a lot of fun, given what I usually write about.
Have a great day today! Take care of your back!!!!

Sonic Safari, huh? I haven’t heard them as of yet, but I do like the band name! Hope you guys enjoyed your Saturday night out!

Ron, the band is awesome. They are soulful groove masters, and excellent to dance to. I don’t know if they play in Roanoke, but watch for their name. You might just have to come up to Floyd to hear them. I’ll keep you posted (pun).

My hand wants to join the other in a two-dimensional pyramid in prayer. The question is whether I overcome my shyness and return to church where I’ve been absent for many months, or whether I grant my hand its wish in the privacy of my home.

My hand is itchingto type a poem formed in my mind. Disjointed though!

Hey there,
There’s a new writing project up at The Shameless Lions Writing Circle site. Please check it out and I hope you can take part and promote it. Also, check out the “latest news” section.
Cheers, Seamus.

My hand wants to clap with joy because I’m listening to “Count Your Blessings” by Laurie Lewis and Kathy Kallick (while I read), a song that makes me want to dance while I’m counting my blessings. Nice manicure, by the way. I’ve never had a manicure either. It’s nail clippers for me, and if I’m feeling extra fancy, a little nail filing!

Ah,Colleen, just wait until you get a pedicure! My daughter-in-law took me for my very first, in California, and it was a dream. You get a foot and lower leg massage along with beautiful feet for sandal-wearing, and they ‘sand’ the bottoms of your feet so it feels like you are floating on air afterward.

I never danced when I was younger, but middle age has found me hopping up to get down every chance I get!

I had a pedicure too! The feet just didn’t assert themselves into this little ditty, but they will be part of the bigger story. It was my second pedicure and yes, it was very dreamy!
I grew up in an amusement park town with dance clubs and I’ve been dancing since high school. I even get up when no one else is. I just wish I could make that second set.

I can’t snap with my right hand either… I’m left-handed in everything except for writing.
My mom was the type to clean the house before the maid came. I never really understood that… perhaps that’s why I only clean when I absolutely have to. (I’ll straighten up, put things back where they belong, etc., but anything involving mops and brooms I avoid until I have no excuses left!)

dear colleen’s hand,
i’ve never had a manicure or pedicure. sounds like you enjoyed the experience, although the effects didn’t last long.
very nice getting to know you better. i knew so little about you until you decided to say ‘hello’ today. it’s okay to be cocky every once in a while…. 🙂

Oh, nice name for a polish. How did you get by so long without a manicure? I actually do more petticures than manicures because I rarely paint my nails. Did you think it tickled? I always squirm….
You are the dancing queen. You guys just go see bands all the time! Good for you! I need a good night of dancing.

Colleen, About the nicknaming bologna horse cock. I don’t know if this nickname is unique to the Silver Valley I grew up in in North Idaho. But, by saying to me that it gave an eerie humor to my poem says that you trusted the authenticity of the nickname and you certainly understood just the kind of effect I hoped that the miner’s vulgarity, combined with the disaster of the mine fire, combined with Billy’s kindness would create.
I’m very grateful to you for that.

I could live without another manicure but pedicures are likely to be repeated. Today when I visited Dylan I noticed his wife’s manicure and pedicure, it was French with the top of the nails painted white.
I pretend someone is coming over to visit to motivate me to clean my house.

I was glad to hear that the reason for the wristband is that you had fun! I kept reading thinking that you were going to get to the bit where you broke your leg and ended up in hospital overnight!

My hand just got polish on the nails. It is a Sunday ritual before a week of school, even though my nails are very short. I also have the same journal here so I should do a hand shot also!

this was a good post and I thank you for visiting my blog. You know I may just get a manicure now. I have never had one.

My hand says it’s jealous of your hand, because it’s not had a professional manicure yet.

My hand likes your wristband and thinks you’re lucky to have had a manicure. Hadn’t thought of a manicure for a long time – used to have one occasionally.
