13 Thursday Drum Roll Please
1. Haiku is the bonsai of poetry.
2. If coffee was music it would be salsa and tea would be a flute.
3. I have a friend name Phil who plays the harmonica. I want to take a picture of him playing so I can name it the “Philharmonic.”
4. I recently joked to my husband that he wakes up like a gymnast. He literally bounces out of bed. Me? Not so much.
5. Whenever I speak of “Doug my server” I feel like calling him Hal from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey because he knows so much more about the outerspace of bloggness than I do, and I feel like I could get thrown over board at anytime.
6. Once when my brother-in-law was visiting us here in Virginia, we were at a restaurant and he asked for an order of chicken wings, but with his thick Boston accent, “order” sounded like “oughta,” and the waitress thought he was asking for “otter,” which of course was not on the menu.
7. Putting up a new post is like bait if you’re fishing for comments.
8. Check out THIS very entertaining trailer for the novel The Liar’s Diary, which my blog friend Patry (who I last blogged about HERE) wrote. She has been recovering from surgery related to cancer and has not been able to promote her book’s paperback release, so a group of bloggers got together and have been doing it for her. More about that HERE and HERE.
9. Some of my photos of downtown Floyd are posted on the Floyd Fest site HERE.
10. Taking pictures is fun partly because the ones you think will come out good often don’t and the ones you expect to be bad often aren’t.
11. I’ve never wanted to be on a game show, Survivor, Dr. Phil, or American Idol. But I DO want to be on THIS, my favorite new TV show, called Just for Laughs. It makes me laugh so hard I fall off the bed, unlike my husband who jumps.
12. I don’t want to be the lady buying fresh fish in the video. I want to be one of the butchers. But if I was the lady, I’d be taking photos and notes so that I could blog about it later.
13. I’m game for it all…except I probably couldn’t bring myself to do THIS.
Thursday headquarters is here. My other 13’s are here. View more 13 Thursday’s here.

I’ve never seen that show. Looks like fun and reminds me of Candid Camera.
January 31st, 2008 9:06 am
I used to LOVE Candid Camera too. I don’t laugh easy at most shows so it was good to find my kind of humor, the kind that makes me laugh uncontrollably. I love watching the expressions people make and their reactions.
It was Tuesday night when I caught it.

I’m with you on the taking pictures. Sometimes I’ll think I’ve just nailed a pic…and it just isn’t “right”. And sometimes I’ll just stumble into the most excellent photo when I haven’t expected to.
January 31st, 2008 9:35 am
well, i totally took the bait. i always love the fun and play you have with words.
and thanks for getting my morning off to a ‘laughing’ start…. that show is hilarious! i’m suprised they didn’t give someone a heart attack with the toilet prank.

oh, anna’s band is ‘barrelhouse mamas’, right? i saw that they are going to be at a festival in cumberland, md this fall…. ‘harvest time music festival’ that an acquaintance is organizing. that’s where we used to live and we were planning on going.
January 31st, 2008 10:00 am
Yes, Anna plays fiddle in the Barrel House Mamas. She’s the newest member of the group. They recently went to Los Angeles to compete in an American Idol-like band show and made it to the 200 final. http://www.barrelhousemamas.com/index.html We’re all sort of glad they didn’t win because those competitions are set up like a talent mill in which artists can lose their independence.

Apparently, I have a bit of an anger management issue, cause if what happened in #11 happened to me, I’d simply walk away thinking it’s just so not worth it LOL!
January 31st, 2008 10:21 am
You are so right about pictures never coming out like you expect. I often am wrong on what I think will actually be what I keep.
I haven’t seen that show but I will have to check it out now if it makes you laugh that hard.
January 31st, 2008 10:51 am
Good 13! I’ve watched the show “Just for Laughs” and about wet my pants from laughing so hard!!!! Okay, I was just somewhere and saw the book THE LIAR’S DIARY…just can’t remember where!!!
January 31st, 2008 10:51 am
I LOVE numero 3!!! LOL! I like the way you think… great list!
January 31st, 2008 11:23 am
My husband mumbles incoherently and loudly when I try to wake him up. It’s really quite funny and I plan to record it sometime. – I think about blogging more like setting traps for comments. The pelts I get are priceless.
January 31st, 2008 11:33 am
You sound as if you were in a very good mood today, lol ! I would understand your BIL (I like the abreviations of BIL, MIL, SIL etc. learned them on blogs) very well because in Boston at least I understood EVERYBODY ! It sounds almost like the english enlish. Texas accents were the worst ! I only could guess what they said !
January 31st, 2008 11:51 am
You’re right. The New England Boston accent is derived from England. When I first moved to Virginia I couldn’t understand many of the locals.
Janet, I actually think it’s the tension in the humor that makes me laugh so much. The tension being created by wondering who will have a sense of humor and who will not. I just love to study people and think they are funny however they act.

This is a complicated post! Gosh. I do love the way your mind works – one thing to the next. That’s really a great way to live!
Happy TT!

A lot of my family is from the Boston area, so the “otter” bit cracked me up.
January 31st, 2008 3:27 pm
sending prayers for patry!!
January 31st, 2008 4:10 pm
me not so much hahahahahahahahahahahahhaah#4
January 31st, 2008 5:19 pm
My husband doesn’t pronounce the last “r’s” on words either, but he’s from New York! It’s really funny to watch Southerners try to figure out what he’s saying.
Do you know if that TV show is filmed in Canada? If so,I’ve been watching it on airlines for the last couple years –hysterical!
January 31st, 2008 5:45 pm
I googled it and it does seem that it originated in Canada. http://www.thefoolsday.com/just-for-laughs-gags.html I was surprised at how little I could find out about it. Better luck with Youtube clips.
January 31st, 2008 6:47 pm
Hey you. Just wanted you to know I’m still reading, if not always commenting. 🙂
January 31st, 2008 7:41 pm
Good to know, Kim. I like to feel you out there.
January 31st, 2008 7:45 pm
Nope, nothing could get me to put my head in a toilet. 120…but a distant memory.
January 31st, 2008 8:18 pm
I enjoyed your list very much. Ditto on what Kat said!
January 31st, 2008 9:25 pm
Esp. like your music-centric comparisons. Otter oughten’t be on any menu.
January 31st, 2008 9:34 pm
My sides are hurting from laughing at the Just For Laughs clip, and also the head in the toilet one. In fact it’s a BBC show, and I think most of it is filmed in Northern Ireland (There was a Canadian show of the same name, about the Montreal comedy festival, which is not connected to this one). It turns up on BBC America sometimes and I always try to catch it.
February 1st, 2008 8:36 am
Make sure you tell me when they finally have otter on the menu!
February 1st, 2008 9:23 am
What great videos. I enjoyed those. I like Haiku as Bonsai thing!
Long time since Michele sent me here.
February 1st, 2008 9:31 am
Oh, I loved the video! Is it on BBC America? 🙂
And I couldn’t do the second trick either.
And the vidoe promo for the book is very clever. Tucking that away for future thought.
Thanks for the laughs this morning. 🙂

Great TT! Laughter is so good for you – I bet your soul is overflowing with jolliness, it just seems to be so from what I’ve read, anyway…
February 4th, 2008 1:43 pm
