I’m a thousand piece picture puzzle
held by the moment for a perfect fit
Until my mind begins to wander to thoughts that make me wonder
how I will keep from breaking it.
Post note: Mosaic art, displayed on the side of a gas station in Blacksburg, was done by local art students.

How nice of the gas station to host local art. Maybe more stations ought to do this…if we’re going to pay $4 a gallon, wouldn’t it be nice to think that part of it was sort of the price of admission to a gallery?!

They have Mosaic art in Disney and I loved it. I think it is great they did it at a gas station. Why not!!? They are the ones who are making the most money in the world. xo

The rest of the gas station is pretty low end. The side where the art is has tables and chairs to sit on and the bathroom door is decorated too. You can see the handle in the last photo. I want to go back and explore more angles. I had seen it for many years when I used to work in Blacksburg but only stopped yesterday when Joe and I were there for a dentist appointment and some acupuncture for me.

Since the individual gas station owner is NOT the person making the big bucks at the current prices, I think it is wonderful that he/she lends the space for such unique and beautiful art.
Thanks for sharing it with us. When am I ever going to learn to take my camera along????

In one particularly manic (and creative) period, I ripped out the tile over my stove and crafted an elaborate floral mosaic on the wall. In 36 hours of non-stop motion. There was a small, wee benefit to the bi-polarness of my youth.
I was ready to do the entire shower wall in an under the sea themed mosaic next, but you know…the downside of the mania hit, I got medicated, we moved to Raleigh…stuff happens. 😉
Don’t you just love finding random acts of art in the most unexpected places?

I’ve always loved mosaics…now I am going to remember this, and next time I have the opportunity…. use scrabble tiles in something like this.

I’ve seen mosaic art in schools, but usually not done by the students themselves, and then for this to be done at a gas station, wow! Very cool.

[…] 1. Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop. 2. “I beg your pardon?” said Alice. “It isn’t respectable to beg,” said the King. 3. “I am real!” said Alice, and began to cry. “You won’t make yourself a bit realler by crying,” Tweedledee remarked: “there’s nothing to cry about.” 4. ‘Contrariwise,’ continued Tweedledee, ‘if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn’t, it ain’t. That’s logic.’ 5. “That’s the effect of living backwards,” the Queen said kindly: “it always makes one a little giddy at first—–” 6. But it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. 7. Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that. Post Notes: I’m getting some dental bridgework done in Blacksburg, so I’ve had more opportunities to take pictures of the mirrored mosaic wall on the Food Time gas station, which is near my dentist. The above lines are from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Every shot is self-portrait. More photos of it are HERE. […]

[…] 13. I still feel sad that the mirrored mosaic wall created by students on the Food Time gas station in Blacksburg was torn down. I’m glad I took some pictures of it before it went. See HERE and HERE. […]
