Not Just a Pretty Face
I want a poem
I can live happily ever after with
even if we fight
I want a compatible poem
with a surprising contradiction
and a line that holds open a door
I want a poem
that will talk to me
but one that won’t say
what it thinks I want to hear
I want a poem meant to be
one that compels me
to turn my head
and look twice
to fold over the corner
of a check-marked page
I’ll know it when I see it
a fresh face in the crowd
the poem I browse anthologies to find

I really really like this poem. You have captured me many years ago when I used to read more poetry. Good luck on your search.

I want a poem that will rub my back. I’ve been at this computer way too long, but I had to catch up on some of my favorite blogs. Loved the finger art too.

Hmm. How about this poem? 😉
The summer like a rajah dies,
And every widowed tree
Kindles for Congregationalist eyes
An alien suttee.
