13 Thursday: Only Kidding
1. Our dog Jasmine lies around while deer come in the yard and eat from our garden, like I let the answering machine pick-up because I don’t want to bother answering the phone.
2. I can’t help wondering if I had been jogging instead of blogging these last 3 years how fit I might be now.
3. Instead of twiddling my thumbs, I’d rather be popping bubble wrap.
4. After seeing Sarah Palin winking into the TV camera during the Vice Presidential debate, I wondered what the responses would have been if Geraldine Ferrari winked during her VP debate in 1984. Then I started imagining other women in positions of power winking. What would it be like if Condi Rice started winking? Could Margaret Thatcher have gotten away with it? How about Janet Reno?
5. So, isn’t winking like crossing your fingers behind your back?
6. A major British newspaper recently sent a reporter to Roanoke, (just down the mountain from us) to see what real swing state people think about the election. The results are HERE. Thanks to Blue Country Magic for posting the link. More voices from Roanoke on the election are HERE.
7. Bridget Bardot, 74 year old activist and one time sex symbol movie star recently said that Sarah Palin was a disgrace to women. Bardot, who heads up an animal rights group, implored Palin not to compare herself to dogs, referring to Palin’s depiction of herself as a pit-bull wearing lipstick. She said, “I know them well and I can assure you that no pit-bull, no dog, nor any other animal for that matter is as dangerous as you are.”
8. Tina Fey did not write the above line, nor did it come from Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers’ SNL Weekend Update of the fake news. It’s true. Bardot actually said it.
9. I wrote this line and it’s also true: I was getting kind of tired of being Joe’s secretary and giving him pat answers when he checks in to see who has called him. So the last time he called home and asked “did I get any messages?” I answered jokingly: “Yeah. Your mother called. She wants you back.”
10. Forclosure? The Bermuda Triangle? What would we do on Thursday without the 13 Thursday meme game prompting us to visit blogging friends, new and old? We found out last week when no one showed up at the TT hub to host the game. So people added their new links to Sept 24th edition and proceeded to play, acting like nothing was different.
11. Actor Will Arnett is married to SNL’s Amy Pohler. His Wikipedia bio says: “He and Amy have two dogs, Hank and Gerald.” His wife’s Wikipedia Bio says: “They live in New York City and have two dogs, Toby and Elliott.”
12. Does that mean that they really have four dogs or that someone is holding crossed fingers behind their back?
13. It’s almost THIS time of year again. Can you guess which one is me?
Thursday headquarters is here. My other 13’s are here. View more 13 Thursday’s here. #154

Interesting TT. I personally liked the wink, I wink a lot myself when talking …I’m just sayin’. Happy TT.
October 8th, 2008 11:42 pm
Gotta luv Bridget Bardot *wink lol Happy T13!
October 8th, 2008 11:51 pm
I know darn well I’d be in better shape if I jogged, but you can’t keep me away from the blog.
October 9th, 2008 12:23 am
I didn’t hear that about Brigitte Bardot. Whether one agrees with her or not, she does speak her mind. By the way, I liked your answer to Joe in #9 on your list.
As for the Halloween photos that you linked to, are you the one in the second photo with the brown make-up and the striped shirt? If so, who/what are you supposed to be?
October 9th, 2008 1:49 am
I fully agree with Brigit Bardot ! she has always been a woman with a lot of sense !
October 9th, 2008 5:26 am
LOL @ #2, I would probably be drop dead gorgeous by now if i had been exercising instead of blogging in the past four years!
Funny, that number 11. Tells us not to believe everything in Wikipedia. Hehe 🙂
Great TT!
October 9th, 2008 7:01 am
i read an article the other day about how Palin has put the women’s movement back years and years. Sigh.
October 9th, 2008 7:36 am
Love #7!!!!!
Come on over to my place and read about the Headless Horseman and Icabod Crane from the legendary short story…it’s loaded with pictures and some historical facts today. See you there!!
Happy Thursday 13.
October 9th, 2008 8:35 am
I heard that you can add info or delete it to Wikepedia, so it isn’t as true as we think. I guess nothing is anymore. xo
PS Per usual, your TT is a great one.
October 9th, 2008 10:59 am
Jazzy sounds like a dear. 🙂
October 9th, 2008 11:30 am
You know, I didn’t even notice that on the T13 last week! I did notice this week that nothing was up until about 1030 pm. You’d think with 3 folks running it, ONE of them could get to it…not to mention update the Featured 13’ers. *shrugs*
Good for Bardot!
I love your #4…what if? Clinton (Bill) winked a lot and we all know what he was up to 🙂
October 9th, 2008 11:42 am
Happy TT lol regarding #4.
October 9th, 2008 11:46 am
LOL! I didn’t even notice the TT hub was down. Half the time I don’t stop by there anyway.

There are a lot of things that would be considered disdainful and continually denigrated by conservatives if a they were done by a Democratic female candidate…beauty pageants, tanning beds, getting free from witchcraft, going on the campaign trail with an infant, avoiding talking to the press, being married to someone who is a Joe-Six-Pack, having an illegitimate grandchild, being involved in something like troopergate, etc. I am not saying that any of this is right or wrong, but certainly controversial and we seem to be holding her to a very different standard than we did Hillary Clinton.
October 9th, 2008 1:30 pm
Great list! Jogging for Blogging – sounds like a bumper sticker or fund raiser race. I think McCain must be wondering, “What was I thinking?” regarding Palin. Have a good one!
October 9th, 2008 2:17 pm
Re: #6 – I’m fascinated with Younge’s reporting from Roanoke. It is always great to get a different perspective on your own area. Sometimes it can be really surprising.
October 9th, 2008 2:21 pm
The winking is unbelievable. Almost as unbelievable as your dog not barking at the deer. But the phone, I do that too! 🙂 Palin is a disgrace to women. She’s the token woman – very 1970s. And unbelievably could be President in just a few days.
We live in interesting times.
October 9th, 2008 2:34 pm
I love #2 – but,of course, I have been jogging “wink-wink”.
Well said Bridget, well said.
Great post – Happy TT.

I always enjoy your stream of consciousness T-13s and wish I had more time to do such things on MY blog these days. Life’s just too busy it seems and there’s no end in sight. I’m sure I’d be more ‘fit’ if I wasn’t blogging … but I’m not likely to give it up any time soon. Methinks I’m definitely addicted. Ohmygosh … #1 is just uncanny … #4 and 5 are so ‘right on’ and ‘resonate’ with my own thoughts on Palin’s behavior … and I shudder to think that even 40% of voters are comfortable with her being a heartbeat away from the Presidency. As for last week’s T-13 disappearing links (it was actually THERE on Wednesday night and gone on Thursday moring … seriously) … wasn’t THAT strange and weren’t WE resourceful? Actually I didn’t have much ‘visiting’ time at all because I was away from home all day, but I did what I could … just because ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
October 10th, 2008 7:52 am
LOL…. loved this post. I only wish Palin would do more interviews (FAT CHANCE) so Tina Fey could continue to entertain us for the next 25 days. I’m more than happy to stop laughing at her after that. 😀 Have you ever heard anyone use the word “also” as much as she does?
Jon Stewart was hilarious making fun of McCain wandering around the stage as Obama spoke… muttering, “Has anyone seen my dog Puddles?” I’m still cracking up at that.
And no, I cannot figure out which Halloween character is you!!
Here via michele… nice to be back!

#4 I’d rather have someone wink than dishonestly deny relationships with political radicals as Obama has done. Give me a wink instead of the revelation that you are not proud of America unless it’s directly giving your husband undeserved power. Blow me a kiss even before you pretend to have enough experience to be President.

Trying to connect Obama with Ayers anti-war activities in the 60’s, as the McCain campaign is doing, is so desperate, and not so unlike Bushes trying to tie 9/11 to Iraq. I’m surprised you are falling for this, Jim and falling in line with those who are using it. Obama was nine years old during that time. Ayers turned himself in and has since redeemed himself as a professor of education. The fact that they both live in Chicago and served on education reform and anti-poverty boards doesn’t a “paling around with terrorists” make.
October 10th, 2008 11:55 pm
I guess Terry Nichols could have been reformed too? It’s not whether someone can be rehabilitated, rather it’s whether one can take responsibility for their actions. I believe that they were a lot closer than you let on with recent communication and book endorsements. Character is important for the main representative of the country.
Hey, did you hear Farrakhan praising Obama today while he denounced Jews? It’s interesting who associates with each candidate.
October 11th, 2008 12:17 am
No, but I did hear that Sarah Palin was just found to have abused her power and violated state ethics in the firing of the state trooper.

so THAT’s why they were trying so hard to keep Palin away from live TV coverage…
