First Snow
The water in the dog’s bowl froze.
I spotted my first snow shovel at the Floyd Elementary School when I was there as one of the judges for Reflections, a literary and art contest. My favorite part of this photo is the matchbox car on the bench and how in my twisted mind I can see how it and the shovel relate.
A cold and snowy day is always a good day to play Scrabble with friends. Well, any day is good for that.
I was shopping at Schoolhouse Fabrics when a mannequin scared me. Even she looked dressed for the snow.
I wondered why I don’t have any snow pictures of the overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and then I remembered that the Parkway closes during bad weather. But we only got a couple of inches and I was able to make it up to Rocky Knob, just a few miles from my house, without sliding on black ice.
I call this Sign of The Times.

when i read you had snow i was hoping to see it. we usually only get about 4-5 snowfalls a season. occasionally we will get one that is 8-9 inches, but usually it’s just 2-4. it is always enough to paralyze me since we live atop eastside elevation. last year we got caught in an unexpected first snowfall which fell so hard and fast that the streets were totally covered quickly. no tracks in the snow for travel because snow kept filling them up! scary, but we finally got home safely after some slippery night travel.

I’ve been scared by the same mannequin! Nice shot of Rocky Knob…you must have gotten up early to get it!

I like that photo of the snow on the mountain. Keep it up there, please.

I took the shot of Rocky Knob in the late afternoon. If I had taken some earlier the snow would have looked more impressive, on the trees and such.

Wonderful snow day shots, Colleen! We got lots of furiously falling flurries, but no real accumulation. But it was lovely as it fell.

I like the photo on the mountain also.
I always love the first snow. I like the coziness of it all. xo

uh-oh, it’s acoming. (Was that negative?) Ahem. Woot, winter. Nah, I’ll stick with my first response. Ice in the bowl is exciting. Now spring can come back.

I too like the Rocky Knob shot. The sky behind the barren trees is pretty. I saw ice around the fountain still running in a man made pond in our office park this morning – think it is time they shut it off! Our Wordless Wednesday shot is of a warmer scene…

We thought we might have some last night but no. Today the flurries started and seemed to startle the Labs. They had been sunning for their morning nap in the drive and they stayed in the house until the flurries were over. I told them I thought they were supposed to be cold weather water dogs, how could they not like snow? I hope we get a big one this year. I am up for at least one. After that give me summer temps again!
