try as we may
we barely hold our ground
as the winds of change
flow between heaven and earth
can we deal with the most vital matters
by letting things take their course
can we step back from our own minds
and thus standunder all things

Ya, God, I’ve got one of your missing angles here…I tried to put her back, but I think I need a taller ladder!

Here’s the scene. Joe was doing his Martial Arts in the yard. The papers are for the new routine he’s learning. He had them on the table but they blew off. The Endless Ocean.
From the moment you were born
a ladder was placed before you that you might escape
From the earth you became a plant
from plant you became animal
afterwards you became a human being
endowed with knowledge, intellect and faith
behold the body born of dust
how perfect it has become
why should you fear its ending?
for when were you ever made less by dying
when you pass from this earthly realm
no doubt you will become an angel and soar about the heavens
but do not stop there
for even heavenly bodies grow old
pass again from the realm of heaven
and plunge into the vast ocean of consciosness
let the drop of water that you are
become a hundred mighty seas
but do not think that the drop of water
alone becomes the ocean
for the ocean too
becomes the drop.
This is the endless ocean.

Was the photo meant to illustrate the Rumi poem? If not, it’s a happy coincidence. Both contain intimations of bliss. Love to you, “cousin.”

The photo was completely organic, not set up. But from the moment I saw it, I thought of that Rumi passage. It’s one that I have used in meditation. Joe knows it too, which is why he wrote it here and signed his name Rumi. xo
