The Fall of Summer
Birdsong heralds spring. Summer means a sundress, bare feet, and isn’t complete until we’ve eaten a few fat slices of blueberry pie. For me, fall begins with a more subtle sign: the quality of light changes. The lowering sun casts a marigold glow. It spills Van Gogh gold onto the fields and forests. With warmth that is penetrating but not burning, a simmering summer is reduced down to fall.

When I came back to Japan from the Philippines after a one-month vacation, I noticed that some of the leaves of cherry trees have already fallen. Time flies so fast.
Lovely picture Colleen! 🙂

Hi Colleen; Netchick sent me. Beautiful comments about fall. I think the first change that I really notice is that the green begins to dull on the leaves. It’s not the change of the color; it’s the loss of vitality of the green that gets me.
But Autumn is beautiful. I was married in the fall, so I’m looking forward to the season. Thank you for inviting me to introspect a bit.

I can see the slight changes here as well. I love the changes in fall especially when the leaves change colour. It always fascinates me.

Some lovely turns of phrase there, Colleen. Fall is my favorite season; I just wish it didn’t turn into winter.

My birthday is in fall, so it’s always been a favorite of mine. The color in your photo reminds me of Italy.

Fall is my favourite time of year…the gorgeous colours as the trees change, the cool evening walks, the smell of the spice and pumpkins, the promise of cosy evenings in front of the fire.
Lovely post!
Bella.

Found myself wishing I had brought a sweatshirt along on an outing today. Fall is just around the corner.

Very nice writing, Colleen. And I like that photo. I do love fall and its brilliant blue skies and clear golden light and the nip in the air that sends you to your closet pulling out slightly musty sweaters.
