Ringing in Spring at the Friday Night Jamboree
~ The following was published in The Floyd Press on March 25, 2010.
1. On the evening before the first day of spring, warm weather brought out musicians and music lovers for Floyd’s Friday Night Jamboree and street scene. (Video HERE.)
2. Daryn Burkholder, visiting from Covington, entertained passersby with his singing and playing. Burkholder was accompanied by Floyd Countian Abigail Bowen, who works at the Station’s Mitchell Music Company. (Video HERE.)
3. Musicians gathered in front of the Country Store as Jamboree attendees filed in to buy ice cream, hear onstage performances, and do some flat foot dancing.
4. Musician Tina Liza Jones (center) showed off her Wayne Henderson guitar, which she said she waited 23 years for because Henderson, a master musician and luthier, only makes so many. Henderson (who made a guitar for Eric Clapton) will be one of the musicians featured on stage and as the subject of a documentary at the Jefferson Center’s Crooked Road Special Event on March 27 at the Floyd Country Store, Jones said. She is sitting with fellow jam musicians (left to right) Eric Root, Jimmy Costa, and Kelly Morris. (Video HERE.)
5. A group of musicians played in Mike Mitchell’s music store as the setting sun set poured in the windows. Mitchell is pictured second on the right with his fiddle.

You have a real hoping town. i wish people around here did that but they’d all have to get paid to participate.

Tanya sent me over to see you, Colleen. Hi!
Musicians certainly appear to be an eclectic group of individuals. I’ve lived in a number of small towns during my life but none had a jamboree with such strong participation. You live in a very interesting place.

What a great event! One of these days I’m just going to have to break down and move to Floyd….it just seems perfect in every way!
