The Stuff 13 Thursday is Made Of
1. Typos are like ticks. No matter how many times I check for them before posting, the next day I usually find one or two that have stuck.
2. Too many E-mails: Last week I posted that the E on my new keyboard was already worn down to look like an F. This week I’m on my laptop (because my PC crashed) and all the letters look fine, except the E looks like this: I.
3. Country living: Last Thursday I drove 30 miles down the Blue Ridge Parkway to babysit Bryce in Roanoke without seeing another vehicle, but I did see deer, a raccoon, turkeys, and a skunk!
4. Funny how skunk almost sounds like the past tense of stink, and you know how they can.
5. Jesus wears a bathrobe and reads the obituaries … He has a long braid like Willie Nelson’s … the rest of this poem can be read HERE at Clutching at Straws, where it was recently published and got some nice comments.
6. Also, a collection of my photos of Floyd were used on the Floydfest music festival site HERE, which I’m very proud of because, although I have been taking pictures since I was 20, I think of myself more of a writer than a photographer and more of a documentarian than a writer.
7. In my first apartment in Quincy Massachusetts when I was 21, I had a sign on the bathroom window that read “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.”
8. Speaking of the Beatles, when it comes to blog comments I think of the song “the love you take is equal to the love you make” and then go blog visiting.
9. You know the town you live in is growing fast when you read a visitor guide and there are places mentioned that you never heard of. And you know you’ve been away from your hometown too long when your spell check has to correct your spelling of your hometown state (as mine just did in # 7).
10. Today was so warm and sunny that I was able to sunbathe on my front porch. I like sunbathing like I like a good beer but I don’t want to get burned like I don’t want to get drunk. Good things are best in moderation
11. Sometimes when my grandson Bryce wakes up from his nap, he looks like Kate Gosselin. See if you don’t agree HERE.
12. According to a new Gallup Poll the majority of Americans think the passage of health care reform is a good thing. It seems a number were against it because it didn’t go far enough and not because they thought it was a government take over.
13. I hate how TV newscasters talk amongst themselves on air like we weren’t even there.

Great list. Everything is good in moderation–including moderation.

Enjoyed your insights.
Moderation is not about enjoying less but about enjoying better. It allows me to be the master and not the slave of my pleasures.

I’ve never been much for sunbathing – primarily because I never tan, I burn – and have never seen the point in getting drunk.
And why does your new blog format refuse to capitalize sentences?? Does it not understand how painful that is to internal editors?

I am a tech clutz and I don’t know why or how to stop it. I have someone who is going to help me tweak things like that but not until early April.

I always admire how you are able to actually complete this task and make it entertaining reading!

Country living is what I’m pining for right now.

Loved your Jesus poem. Very interesting choice of images.
I can see why they used your Floyd pictures. Nice.
You are missing #8. I was paying attention.
News casters are annoying. I don’t watch the news. Their sharing of their opinions annoy me.

As always, a great T13! I’m not surprised your floyd photos were picked up. I just noticed under your picture, it says your first published piece was at age 11. Inquiring minds want to know, do you still want to get rid of your freckles?
Happy T13!

I loved your poem. Jesus as Willie Nelson is a great image.
I think of myself as a writer and not a photographer, too, even though I have had hundreds of photos published. Strange how the mind works!

I’m excited about spring and warm weather coming too.

That is so funny about missing number 8. It’s not the first time I counted wrong here. My sister Sherry usually catches it. It happens because, as a writer of poetry, I’m always taking and adding lines and moving them around. Tabor, I often collect lines throughout the week on scraps of paper and in my notebook and then add them to the flow when I sit down and write the next 13. I also have taken some of the better lines and read them like punchlines at open mic.

#1 is spoken like a true mountain girl! I know the mountains are your second home, but I can see them getting into your blood the same way they are in mine! Not ticks, but the way of life in the mountains.
I love the blue ridge parkway. I learned how to drive a stick shift on the blue ridge parkway. My older brother taught me when I was 15 in his 1985 blue ford pickup truck! It was fantastic fun.
Happy Thursday!

Great post! I’m totally with you on the typos… it drives me crazy! I always hope I can change them before anyone notices… as if they care!
March 25th, 2010 5:03 pm
I learned how to drive stick stick in my boyfriend’s karmen ghia in the grocery store parking lot in Weymouth Mass. I couldn’t let anyone teach me that because I had to figure it out for myself!
Off to drive the Parkway right now. Thursday is my current day with Bryce!
March 25th, 2010 7:29 pm

Wonderful Thursday Thirteen, as always, Colleen. I like reading your thoughts. #13: I hate that fake newscaster patter, too. They so often say such silly things that I feel embarrassed for them.
