13: The Bluebird of Happiness
1. As Joe was serving me tea in bed the morning of my birthday, I said, “You remind me of the East Indian butler in Murder on the Nile,” a part he actually played in a Floyd Theater Group production years ago.
2. He wouldn’t put on a white towel for a turban.
3. While getting a massage this weekend, I wondered this: could plush be a plural of lush and lush be the nickname for luscious?
4. Having a lot of verve is a lot like having a lot of nerve only better.
5. Like author Joan Didion, who kept her husband’s shoes around after he died in the magical thinking chance that he might come back and need them, I keep tampons in my glove compartment.
6. I recently received some more mail for my deceased brother Dan. Of all things, it was life insurance.
7. Written in the margins of one of the pages of notes I’ve been sorting through: Building a story is a labor of the mind that comes with its own kind of physical exhaustion.
8. In expressing my gratitude for all the Facebook and blog birthday wishes I got this week, I’ll let my 2 year old grandson Bryce (whose birthday was 3 days before mine) speak for me HERE.
9. The mountain bluebird pictured above landed outside my window as I was typing at the computer last week. We stared each other down. It won, and then I took a picture through the screen.
10. My husband Joe is finally launching his Inward Bound Mindfulness Education programs in an official way, with a new webpage HERE.
11. WSLS TV news was here all last week reporting on Floyd’s culture and music scene. Anchors Karen McNew and Jay Warren set up shop in The Floyd Country Store and interviewed some of my friends and neighbors. Search Floyd for more HERE.
12. Just saying “the bluebird of happiness” makes me happy.
13. This week’s soundtrack is HERE.

My neighbor, and elderly man named Bob, put up a bluebird house on his shed. This spring, he had a family of bluebirds nest in there and they had 3 chicks! Now, almost everytime I am outside, I can see one flitting by. They are like a fast-moving peice of the sky that hang out on chain link fences!

I like the idea of tea in bed. I’m going to suggest that to my husband. Thanks.

You ACTUALLY want the chance to use a tampon again?????
May 20th, 2010 5:12 pm
It has its advantages but mostly I’m a creature of habit!

I can empathize on the mail, Colleen — I’m still getting it for my dad, ten years later. Happy belated birthday!

That bluebird was certainly a good omen for the first days of the rest of your life.

Now that’s high hopes, or negative thinking, about the tampon.
Very interesting observations on this Thursday 13 Colleen.
