Life with Bryce
Last week I found a neon pink strand of silly puddy stuck in my hair. This week I have a diaper in my pocketbook. I fill little red cardboard boxes with organic raisins, check picture books out of the library, and linger over the Tonka trucks at The Farmers Supply store.
There’s a toy cell phone in the back of my car that he tried to call his Uncle Josh with and a pair of rolled up socks still in my coat pocket that we put on his hands for mittens when it was winter. The songs stuck in my head are about blind mice and boats rowing gently down the stream. Sometimes I burst out with dramatic lines from storybooks: You Monkey’s, You Give Me Back My Caps!! What, Lost Your Mittens? You Naughty Kittens!
When I gave him an old key on a key chain, he was busy for hours trying to open the front door, the garage, and gate and pretending to start the lawnmower and his daddy’s red sports car. Another time he became interested in an ice pack from my lunch cooler and carried it around for half a day.
He kisses me when I ask more often than he used to. I love the way he skips when he walks and sings made up songs when he plays. He gets impatient when I tire and sit down to rest, tugging at me and saying, “Up, Up” and “Come-on!”
I love the way he calls Joe H(opa) and I love to watch them together. I love when he says daddy, mommy and sissy and when he growls the word motorcycle in a macho voice or sweetly says “I scared.”
My life has changed a lot in the past two years, and in that short time he has grown from a baby to a little boy with likes and dislikes, spontaneous joy, inventive play, cranky moods, and a full blown personality. I can’t imagine life without him.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Bryce. Love, Your Nana

I love all these things too, but you say it so well! Grandkids are indeed the grandest things in life and thankfully they arrive right at that point in life when we have the time to play. Enjoy and happy birthday!

Two years old already? How quickly time passes. Our grandson is 20 months so I’m starting to cherish the same things. Do you even remember life before Bryce? I rejoice in the anniversary of his birth and the excitement of seeing life from his perspective.
