13: Write Now
1. Some people bring home puppies. My husband brings home stray hikers, campers, and bikers off The Blue Ridge Parkway. Saturday night we had 3 guests who have been bicycling cross country since November. See their webpage and blog HERE.
2. Recently said to my husband: “I feel rich. I have bluebirds at the feeder and carrot cake in the fridge. What more could a person want?”
3. I remember when my second son was born, I felt rich having 2 sons and was happy I had 2 arms to match, one each for holding and keeping them out of trouble.
4. I remembered that feeling when I recently learned that my grandson Bryce is going to have a brother, due in October.
5. The answer to # 2: The oil spill stops leaking.
6. In the same way a baby puts everything in his mouth to see what is like, I put words on paper.
7. I think it’s no mistake that the word lay is in lazy, plant is in planet, and forest says “for rest.”
8. Jolly says joy and coyote is coy. His name tells us so.
9. Never a dull moment: The latest story I’m working on is one about a Hawaiian/Aztec Hula dancer who does everything from ballet to belly dancing. I’ve seen her dance with fire, with a hoop, and with a sword balanced on her head, and her phone ring tone is Bob Marley.
10. A favorite recent line from the book Eat, Pray, Love – tall and blond and pink complexioned, I am less a chameleon than a flamingo – made me wonder what kind of bird would describe me. I don’t know the answer to that but I know what my bird call would be: a loud yawn.
11. There’s something bout THIS song that I like. I heard it on the radio and had been looking for it for a long time by searching on youtube for “there’s somethin bout you.” I finally just heard it on the radio again, and, it turns out, I should have been searching for “there ain’t nothin bout you.”
12. So now that the bluebird of happiness lives in my yard, what should I manifest next? How about the fountain of youth?
13. The secret to writing a book? I think it’s this: Take good notes and write often enough that it starts to accumulate. ~ Colleen, from The Jim and Dan Stories.

congrats on the expected birth of a new grandson! wo0o ho0o…exciting holidays ahead! does bryce have any understanding?
how do you and joe determine the safety of strangers who are invited into your home? enjoyed looking at their blog.

Good question on the last one. As a bicyclist/hiker himself I guess Joe feels a sense of family with others who do the same, the way when you’re hiking the Appalachian trail you make quick friends with others hiking. I am the more cautious one. We have a cabin in the woods on our property and it was perfect for the hikers. Camping fees from November to now add up!
I don’t think Bryce understands much about the baby coming. I haven’t heard him speak of it, but I’m sure his parents are trying to prepare him. October is so far away in toddler time. Funny, Bryce will be the same age as my first son Josh was when his brother Dylan was born. So Dylan will experience something of his own life through the eyes of a parent now.

I enjoy your TT!!

Congratulations on the coming new grandson—how exciting!
I really enjoyed the book Eat, Pray, Love, though I found Elizabeth Gilbert a bit irritating sometimes. If I were a bird, I’d be a Wood Thrush. I love quiet, like to hang out in the forest, and I have brown speckles. 🙂

I’m feeling for you about the hubby and the hikers….
