Beach Sanctuary
I walk along Beach Ave after my mother has gone to bed and fantasize smaller houses for her to live in. Looking out onto the stretch of ocean, horizon, and sky, I’m reminded that no matter how much activity, chaos, or clutter you have in your life, at the ocean you can have a clean slate. I imagine oil washing up on shore and feel sad. Strangely, the hint of English Leather cologne seems to waft through the air like a ghost, stirring teenage memories of an old boyfriend and a first kiss.

Red plastic cups…better than tar balls.

The cup sort of symbolized for me the endless task of trying to clean it up once its ruined.

Try to remember when life was so tender and no on wept but the willow…

LOVE that Song…”Try To Remember”….that evokes lots of memories, too….It must be really something being back there in Hull and seeing the Beach and the Sea and knowing what is happening in the Gulf, and almost everywhere to one degree or another…..
There are warnings here all the time about certain parts of our Pacific Ocean being unswimable…(I NEVER heard anything like that, growing up…!!) Scary and so very very sad.
Great Picture, Colleen.

Wow. You just packed so much into that one little paragraph. The empty beach is very soothing.

Beautiful picture. My heart is still grieving over the beaches of my childhood. I hope that the oil doesn’t reach you.
