13 Thursday: Stop Making Sense

1. It’s a crock that one of my crocs turned blue overnight (which I recently announced with this photo on Facebook).  But it’s not a crock that one of my crocs shrunk a whole size overnight and didn’t fit anymore.

2. I think it’s fitting that crocks are for cooking and that you can cook a croc in crock pot to stretch back into shape.

3. Potterrific: word coined by friend of my Asheville potter son to describe him.

4. When my son Dylan was a little boy he  liked to huggle, which is a word he made up by combing the words hug and cuddle.

5. Found on Facebook: When graphic artists get bored HERE.

6. Does the m in m/any make a mutant plural of any, as in more of any.

7. Catholics dress up for Mass, And listen to Gregorian chants. Atheists just take a pass, Watch football in their underpants.  ~ More from Steve Martin’s Atheists Don’t Have No Songs HERE.

8. Looney-Warde, Best-Lay, and Butts-McCraken are real people wedding announcements. See more from “When Not to Hyphenate Your Name” at Spatter HERE.

9. “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” ~ A quote by Dr. Seuss found at Melange.

10. The guy who made THIS video (found at Blue Country Magic) about Roanoke managed to weave a plot and a surprise ending into the 10 minute documentary.  The whole time I was watching, I kept thinking ‘he should really go to Floyd’ and then he did.

11. I just noticed that I had two posts in row this week with titles that ended with “!” which reminded me of a poem I wrote about 15 years ago called The Exclamation Kiss:  A kiss with punctuation …indicates excitement … long and thoughtful … to the point … ending quickly … with a flair … the exclamation kiss!

12. New answering machine message:  This is Joe and Colleen.  You’re on the air.

13. If you were a punctuation mark which would you be?

Love #11! The Exclamation Kiss! Do you still have a copy of that poem? Care to share? =)

    My Thursday 13.

  • 2 susan:

At first I thought you were cooking crocodile in your crock pot…

Love # 9, everyone would benefit from a dose of nonsense and fantasy (looking at the beginning of this sentence, I see love potion # 9)

I feel like your answering machine message when I click ‘publish’ on a new blog post.

    Have a great day!

  • 3 Nessa:

    I heart number nine.

I went punctuation crazy in my haiku yesterday just because I felt the urge although I did not use the exclamation point!

  • 4 Sherry:

I would be a question mark at this point in my life……I am always asking WHY??

  • 5 colleen:

I’ve always related to the exclamation point but these days more of a comma, pausing or adding afterthoughts.

  • 6 Pamela:

    #5 was amazing!

  • 7 Caridad Pineiro:

Love #4. When my daughter was younger and we were having snow with a little drizzle, she decided to call it snowzzling. Made it’s way into one of my books.

  • 8 sandy:

    I love word people!

    13. If you were a punctuation mark which would you be?

    I would be a semicolon. Why? Because there’s more to come ;

  • 11 CountryDew:

I’d have to be a question mark because I inquire about everything. Always have.

Thanks for the link back on the Roanoke video.

  • 12 Heather:

Gotta love Steve Martin and Dr. Seuss!

  • 13 Mary:

    So great!

  • 14 srp:

    I love Dr. Suess!

I guess I would have to be a “.” Nyssa wrote this about the punctuation in high school.

    David
    I am a warrior
    My face smeared with dirt
    Yes, I am small—unnoticeable
    But beware
My bite it worse than my bark
I strike fear inside the most magnificent monsters
Chilling their inner vowels and consonants with my shadow—
    Looming sentences—Goliaths—fall
    Slain with my mere pebbles
    I stand—waiting—tense and armed
Ready for those brave letters who misjudge my stature and test my strength
So come—I welcome any of you who dare challenge this thick round shield
But know your end is set in stone
    A thick brick stop.
    ~ Nyssa Perryman

  • 15 Anne:

Hi! Thanks for dropping by my site. What I meant was, can you post the poem again? I want to read the whole poem. =)

  • 16 colleen:

Oh, That is the whole poem! I am the queen of the short poem.

  • 17 Tabor:

You did it again. I guess I would be a question mark because it means I am still on the hunt to learn. You still make this look easy.

  • 18 sherilee:

What a great list. Lots to chew on!

I would say I am probably more of an exclamation point than anything else. But I would love to be a comma… But the inner Tiger always seems to come out with enthusiasm and I don’t really fight it any more…

    Happy TT!

  • 19 Danielle:

I would definitely be an exclamation mark!!!!

  • 20 Jill Conyers:

How do you come up wit this stuff? Love the word huggle.

I would be an exclamation point!

  • 21 OldOldLady Of The Hills:
