As American as Apple Pie
I did not fulfill my fantasy of being a pie contest judge for our town’s Country Fair, but I did get to have a hearty slice of the best apple pie I’ve ever tasted (washed down with an excellent Brooklyn Ale on tap). The pie was baked by my friend Mara with apples from her own orchard for our friend Jamie’s party at the Dogtown Roadhouse.
Jamie, a native of Australia and teacher at Floyd’s Blue Mountain School, was celebrating his new status as an American citizen in full Uncle Sam regalia. I wore red pants in honor of him.
“I like Pie, that’s my new byline,” I told my 6 year old friend Lotus. We were sitting on the picnic table on the Roadhouse deck just after sunset. After I explained to her what a byline and she made one up of her own: “I like horses.” Later, we joined our friends where the Roadhouse meets the Sun Music Hall and twirled to the tunes of The Alliens, spinning free on the sprawling dance floor like our dancing was a regular Friday Night Jamboree tourist attraction.
Post note: The dance floor scene is not shown here because I was too busy dancing to get it.

Yes apple season is just getting going here in Southern Oregon. Best apples of the year by far. That looks like a great deck to eat on!

You do know how to celebrate up there where the air is thin and the music flows like ale.
