Do birds really build a nest in those little houses? I have a wren house to put up on a tree before winter. Then perhaps the chickadees will see it rather than the annual fight for the bluebird house.

Well you know I’ve heard some birds do, like bluebirds, but none have ever taken up residency in my birdhouse, preferring instead to build nests in my porch rafters. I have heard that if you want to entice birds to move in you have to nail the houses tight against a tree or something.

I took this a while ago and wrote the poem some 25 years or more ago, but I woke up to birdsong this morning and so put them together.
