The Fun and the Famous Come to Floyd
Despite the frigid temperatures and wintry mix of weather, our weekend was full of the fun and the famous coming to Floyd, including a mid-week sing-a-long concert at the Zion Lutheran Church with songwriting folk singers Jim Scott (of the Paul Winter Concert fame) and James Durst. I hadn’t heard Jim sing Common Ground since the 80’s when he first played in Floyd. Jim Durst’s song Internationally Unknown and others brought some big smiles. You’ve never heard of me. Where have you been? I’ve been round and round this world and back again. I got a webpage of my own and a cell phone and still I’m internationally unknown … Video HERE.
The fun and the famous included a visit by my two-year old grandson Bryce, who had a sleepover and then attended Kari Kovick’s children’s music program at the Floyd Country Store with his Opa and me. We ran like horses, flew like owls, marched like lions, and shook our jingle bells, boots and booty. Video HERE and HERE.
Gunther Hauk is a world renowned beekeeper and author who recently moved his Spikeard Farm and Honeybee Sanctuary to Floyd. He spoke to a crowd of about 100 at the Floyd Country Store before the screening of documentary film Queen of the Sun. Despite the heavy subject (the possible extinction of honeybees!), the film was beautiful and life affirming. It was my first time hearing Gunther speak and all I can say is that hanging around all those sweet making honeybees must have rubbed off, judging by his sweetly calm nature and intelligence. Thanks to SustainFloyd for hosting the event. Video HERE. More to come …

After all the running, marching, flying and shaking, I bet you were really tuckered out! Bet Bryce was just ready to go again!

We played checkers and marbles in a Country Store booth and had lunch after that. Then I drove him the hour each way down the mountain to his mother and back home. After that I crashed!
