13: The Eyewitness Muse
1. “Thou shalt not kill” – or the Buddhist version “Abstain from killing” is a fine moral guideline for human society. It’s non-sensical when applied to the natural world. … Life is literally a process of one creature eating another, whether it’s bacteria breaking down plants or animals, plants strangling each other, animals going for the throat or viruses attacking animals.” ~ The Vegetarian Myth by Lierre Keith
2. My son Josh called recently to say he thought of me when he a saw a sign on the side of building that he knew I would like. It said: “Smoking Cures Ham.”
3. It took me a moment too, and I’m such a bad joke teller that I would probably mess this one up if I tried to retell it and say something like “Cigarettes Heal Pork.”
4. For real: Simon Cowell’s mother thought Steven Tyler was Paula Abdul.
5. The word gag is right in lady gaga’s name, which was recently pointed out to me by another blogger who doesn’t think she’s all that.
6. I’m really liking the word frolic.
7. I woke up to Joe’s cell phone ring tone this morning, which reminded me of a game of musical chairs and people scrambling to get seats.
8. Today just 400 Americans have more wealth than half of all Americans combined.
9. Why is it that the mainstream media covered the revolution for people’s rights in Egypt relentlessly but hardly has a word to say about American workers loosing their rights in Wisconsin, where more than 50,000 have been demonstrating daily?
10. “We are coming after you, we are stopping you and we are going to return the money/jobs/homes you stole from the people. You have gone too far. It’s too bad you couldn’t have been satisfied with making millions, you had to have billions – and now you want to strip us of our ability to talk and bargain and provide.” Michael Moore to Wall Street. Moore describes the scene in Wisconsin HERE.
11. Two of the same searches from different IP addresses that landed people on my blog this week and had me scratching my head: “zucchini brothers nantasket.” Another, “collage art of cry” gives me an idea for a book title.
12. Can you pass THIS frog leap game for second graders in China? I got it in 4 tries. How about you?
13. Get ready for you eyes to pop HERE.
Hop on over to 13 Thursday HERE.

I’m wondering the same thing about number nine, myself. It’s amazing that we just don’t care about our fellow Americans in the US unless it’s some faceless “other” attacking us from outside.
When we do it to each other, we turn away.
It breaks my heart.
Thanks for sharing these amusing tidbits – I especially enjoyed 2 and 3, by the way. 🙂
Happy TT!

So sad about the set up that they did for the CEO of NPR and so worried that this will give them enough ammo to de-fund my favorite radio station. I know you sympathize, because you have actually been on it!

The link for #12 didn’t work.
Those bottle houses are amazing… I wonder how well they insulate…The chair in those pictures does not look as comfortable though… give me a plain old rocker or porch swing hung from the ceiling.

Do you remember the nightclub called The Frolics in Salisbury Beach?
Also, there’s a restaurant in MA or NH…can’t remember which, that has a wall made of bottles!

Wow! It’s been a long time since I have run across your blog! liked your Thrusday 13, especially the comment about news media shrugging off the public workers in WI. Not enough blood shed I guess.

So much too talk about! I love Michael Moore…..And it is shocking what is happening right here in this country on so many levels–THAT the Media does not address…But we get endless Charlie Sheen…..UGH!
400 people! It is disgusting, beyond words! And most of them probably don’t pay Taxes….
The Frog link didn’t work, Colleen….The Glass Bottle Art is FABULOUS!! It reminded me of The Tile House here that I posted many pictures of…He used lots of Bottle Bottoms in his work.
Another very rich T13, my dear. I don’t know how you do it!

The frog link worked for me, Naomi.
Here’s Michael Moore’s full disclosure: Full disclosure: I am a proud union member of four unions: the Directors Guild, the Writers Guild, the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA (the last two have passed resolutions supporting the workers in Wisconsin). My production company has signed union contracts with five unions (and soon to be a 6th). All my full-time employees have full medical and dental insurance with NO DEDUCTIBLE. So, yes, I’m biased.

Having grown up in a pro-union household and hoping to one day be part of the Writers Guild, I’ve followed the protest in my home state from the beginning and the shocking lack of protest in my current state of New Mexico, despite union-busting legislation predating Wisconsin and picking up steam. It’s disheartening but I’m happy to see so many folks talking about it and keeping it in the blogosphere and social media. I can’t believe how little it’s been on the news in comparison. Sigh.
Anyway, to end on an up note, frolic is one of my favorite words! 🙂
Happy TT,

One more thing…the word “frolic” always makes me think of the baby goats I see at this very time of year on a farm near me.

I am proud of our 14 senate dems who stood up for the people, and that my state has become the center of a new labor movement in this country. Unfortunately, I missed Michael Moore’s visit (birthday weekend, I had “other” plans), but I did listen to and read it at his website and found it quite moving. I was reading an article this evening that the AFL/CIO has seen a surge of 20,000 new members sicne Feb 15. On Wisconsin!

The mainstream media has a vested interest in seeing Gov. Walker succeed – ya think that might explain why the protests weren’t covered? Or the magnitude of the disaster in Japan? Liberal bias, conservative bias … who cares? How about a “truth bias”? They flunk on that one.
