Spotlight on 13
1. I want a bumper sticker that says “I Brake for Poetry.”
2. Poetry is the cherry on the cake of literature. ~ Liz Smith
3. Where do poems come from: I was walking across my living room to shut out a light and as I clicked it off, the phrase “Paper Cut” lit up in my mind like a game show player’s buzzer telling me I had the right answer. But what was the question?
4. Message from the Muse? A prompt? A challenge? I recognized “Paper Cut” as the title or the subject of a poem, but no other information came. I was drawn to the soft and then hard sounds of “Paper,” then “Cut.” The meaning was intriguing, like an oxymoron, I thought as I considered how such a thin wisp of lightness can actually cut you. I pondered how paper is the tool of a writer and how editorial cuts can sting.
5. That was zen THIS is now. Try not to stare creepily
6. It’s odd how I have a very basic understanding of what’s happening at the nuclear power plant in Japan from watching the Simpsons for the past 20 years, since Homer works at a nuke plant and has caused countless near-disasters. TV’s good fro something. ~ My friend Eydie on Facebook
7. What’s Irish and stays out all night: Paddy O’furniture. ~ Told by Rio on Facebook
8. Life is like musical chairs, round and round day after day. Sometimes I sit it out and sometimes I play.
9. As a poet I have a stubborn need to put things in my own words, which is why I have always been suspicious of soundbites, formulas, party lines and dogmatic creed.
10. I wrote THIS poem in my sleep.
11. What Doug said. And Keith Oberman: “We all know ‘the five second rule.’ Drop food on the floor and if you pick it up before that span of time elapses, and it’ll still be ‘good.’ There is also a life-and-death version of this: the five-day rule, by which we have surrendered to any US President the right to kill people in our name, provided he only does it for a couple of days.”
12. “It’s discouraging how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit.” – Sir Noel Coward (1899-1973) English playwright
13. “So where do poems come from? Michael Longley has a witty, slightly exasperated response to that FAQ: if I knew that, I’d go there.” Nick Laird

Great picture of the Super Moon.
I used to write much more poetry than I have the past few years. Maybe I should take the time to write more.
Love the poem you wrote in your sleep. I can relate *wink
Happy T13!

Great pic of the moon–I like the one below of the cows, too. I used to write a ton of poetry but have written very little of it since college. The words don’t seem to come as easily as they used to.

I love the moon pic too. I’m afraid I’m not a poet and don’t read very many. 🙂

The moon did not look near that super at my house…..so it is nice to see your picture.
I’m loving the mindfulness rituals. Lots of good idea there. Thank!

Funny how that moon is a chameleon and changes her look for us all. Number 12 SHOULD be a bumper sticker!

Life is like musical chairs………and #12 is so true and you know how much I like quotes. I might steal it! xo

I love the sound of paper cut. I also love the actual sound of cutting paper with scissors. I think I am conditioned because normally, when doing so, it is either for an art project or wrapping a gift. Both happy occasions!

The entire post made me realize I haven’t written poetry in more than a decade. The picture of the moon made me realize I miss it…
Happy TT,

According to the comment you left on my 2010 “I.Q. test” (that means “Irish Quotient” test), “Pati O’Furniture” went over your head. I guess I should have spelled it “Paddy O’Furniture.” LOL.
