13: A Little Birdie Told Me
1. It’s a wake-up call when your birdseed costs more than any other single item on your grocery list.
2. But maybe getting THESE shots makes it worth it.
3. Speaking of wake-up calls, the ocean takes another big hit. First we had the BP oil spill and now Japan is dumping millions of gallons of radioactive water into the Pacific every day.
4. The good news: Germany has abandoned nuclear power.
5. Speaking of Germany, the Easter Bunny was first introduced to the United States by the German settlers who settled in what is known as Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 18th century. Easter is a Christian holiday that has roots in pagan Goddess culture.
6. I remember as a child thinking it was strange that a bunny brought eggs on Easter rather than a chicken that could actually lay them delivering them.
7. THIS is today’s soundtrack.
8. In the last couple of days I learned the meanings of a “moveable feast” (a holy feast day like Easter whose date is not fixed on the calendar) and the word “nigh” (an old form of near). I watched a PBS documentary about the artist Jean Michel Basquiat (who died of a drug overdose) and an online documentary on crack cocaine in Lowell, Massachusetts in the 1990’s (after seeing the movie The Fighter, which was based on it).
9. As someone who grew up in the South Shore of Boston, I feel obliged to watch all movies set in and around the city. The night after watching The Fighter, we watched The Social Network but it didn’t dawn on me until the next day that it was also set in Boston because Harvard was not my kind of Boston experience.
10. Besides the current obvious (Mark Walberg, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck) Jack Lemon, Bette Davis, Leonard Nimoy, Barbara Walters, James Spader, e e cummings, Jane Curtain, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Donna Summers and Matt Leblanc, are all from or were from Boston.
11. Today I planted seed potatoes and played pirate spaceship with my grandson Bryce. I also got quoted on Blogations, saying, “In the morning I like to make a second cup of tea but usually forget I poured it and end up not drinking it. My husband calls it my Placebo Effect cup.” See HERE.
12. A friend just reported on Facebook that she saw a man driving with a colorful parrot sitting on the back of the passenger seat today, which reminded me of the time I saw a skateboarder in the street with a pan on his head for a helmet.
11. My son Josh is in Australia eating kangaroo burgers as we speak.
More playing 13 Thursday HERE.

I love the song “Blackbird”!! It has extra special meaning to me.
It reminds me of our Laverne and Shirley days too.
I like #5 too and it is good to know. xo

1. wow, are they getting gourmet, or is it a huge flock or you stocking up by bulk?
3. crazy. 4. thanks goodness for small steps. Our government official said our nuclear plant (on the river I’m on) needs repairs to prevent problems so our (hopefully soon to be ex-)Prime Minister fired her.
9. Boston stood for me like a child for all that was refined and cultured, the new world in a confine of one city, yet I still haven’t visited it yet.

The kind that attracts finches cost more.
Like Wahlberg and fighter Micky Ward, I’m come from a working class family of 9 kids and a long way from Harvard, even though it was only 20 miles or so away.

I think the price you’re paying for birdseed is definitely worth it; your photos of the finches in the fog are absolutely gorgeous! Happy Thursday!

I’m envious of the garden planting. Mine is still fallow and I can hardly wait to put the seeds in.

I’ve always thought bunnies and eggs didn’t go together. There’s nothing nicer than fresh potatoes dug from the garden. I hope you have a good crop!
