Poet Cakes
I want to write a poem that doesn’t feel like homework or look like a grocery list/one I can float down the river for my friend Mara’s birthday and trust it knows its way to the ocean ~ From The Cheap Therapy Poem
You’ve heard of patty cakes? My poet friend Mara had poet cakes for her birthday.
She pronounced herself 18 years old with 22 years of experience, wearing a t-shirt that read “Stop Bitching. Start a Revolution.”
After a lucky potluck, we read poetry to each other and wrote pieces of poems on one of Mara’s t-shirts. We meant to float poems down the river in boats but it was raining so much so that a couple of women left early because their dog is afraid of thunder and lightening.
The cupcakes were rainbow inside and my first word to match up with a small selection of descriptive adjectives while playing Apples to Apples was “radiant.”
Mara ceremoniously ate a cupcake covered in a spiral message that read “Sometimes a sober voice is enough to calm the waters and drive away the false witnesses.”
Watch her blow out the candles on her rainbow poetry cup cakes made by Emily (who knows I blog 13 on Thursday and designed one with my name on it and with my blog in mind) HERE.
