Round the 13 Racetrack
1. I love this: Jeff Beck says he pretends he doesn’t know how to play the guitar everyday when he picks it up to play.
2. I just noticed that Bill Gates first name is in the word Billion.
3. Time to find something else to do besides renting movies in Floyd. The end of an era HERE.
4. “Psychologists have long known that emotions, just like germs, are contagious. People exposed to a person experiencing strong emotions may experience similar feelings, catching them through facial expressions, tones of voice or some other means. But now there is a new means of transmission — social media.” More HERE.
5. Quotable line on politics seen on Facebook: Left Hemisphere Right Hemisphere Same Brain. Left Wing Right Wing Same Bird.
6. I recently described Facebook to a friend who isn’t on line as “immediate media.”
7. Over the weekend I toured a retro designed apartment in a 100 year old water mill, visited the Floydfest site and took pictures of the new construction for the local paper and learned how to make flower embedded paper at papermaking demo at Gibby Waitzkin’s studio during the Floyd Artisan Trail Tour. Catch a glimpse HERE.
8. On Monday I came back down to earth, which for me means weeding the asparagus bed.
9. My friend Suzi Gablik’s recent confession to shooting Osama Bin Laden in her blog post Osama Bin There Done That is definitely worth a read. Suzi, an art critic and author, is an excellent writer with a sharp wit and a funny sidekick, an alligator named Virgil. Scroll through her blog HERE.
10. Robyn O’Brien (the Erin Brockovitch of food) makes a compelling connection between the U.S. having the highest rate of cancer on the planet and being the only country that allows engineered food for profit HERE.
11. It sounds like science fiction plot to me that the food industry can engineer our food with growth hormones and genetically modify or spray them with cancer causing pesticides and not have to prove the safety of that, forcing someone else to to prove it is unsafe. Meanwhile, organic growers don’t get the governmental subsidies (paid for with our taxes) industrial farming gets AND they have to pay fees to be certified.
12. My 3 year old grandson calls his picture above “a pickle head concert and a racetrack.”
13. And now for something completely different that proves you can teach an old dog a new trick HERE.
More at the Thirteen Thursday hub HERE.

That dog video is too, too funny. My mom will love it.

The dog video traumatized me a little bit. *Grin* I saw the Jeck Beck quote a few days ago and loved it as well. I don’t think I could get up each day and pretend that I don’t know how to write, but it’s easy to pretend that I have no idea what happens next. (Is it still pretending if I don’t really know?) 🙂
Happy TT,

I like the idea of approaching something like it’s brand new each day and dropping the baggage of yesterday. Not that I do succeed in doing that very often.

I especially appreciate this one:
5. Quotable line on politics seen on Facebook: Left Hemisphere Right Hemisphere Same Brain. Left Wing Right Wing Same Bird.

Love the Jeff Beck quote. A new beginning every day.

I’m hearing more and more bad things about genetically altered food. Sounds scary. I need to be more proactive about my family’s food.

Colleen…still, you find the neatest stuff. But the dogs…they are great! (I keep wondering if you had a hand in the production.) And, are you a Monty Python fan? 🙂 4 was very interesting. 3, our video store closed here a while back. Netflix is doing great here now. 10 and 11 started scaring and worrying me a while back over the milk. Your posts are always such a pleasure. I appreciate you sharing them.

I think I saw the dog video on Facebook. I’ve been fascinated with wondering how they pulled it off, got those dogs to be so polite.

That emotions are catching from the negative side isn’t a popular idea but it makes sense. we echo each other to communicate. We impact each other unless we are sociopaths.
It suggests mental illness is contagious too which suggests slippery slopes of stigmas.
but then it sometimes is, like strep throat and susceptible people for OCD. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/14/health/psychology/14ocd.html
