13: News to Muse
1. Got invited to: Nothing. Location: Anywhere. On Facebook by Pearl.
2. Heard on Independence Day: “May the Fourth be with you,” but it was too late to use it in a blog title.
3. After I finish a push of writing several feature stories at a time I take a deep breath and think about giving up writing all together like the woman who thinks she won’t have anymore kids right after labor.
4. “My mom saves me from the scariest things.” Bryce (3).
5. Aren’t you glad I filmed THIS black snake making his escape only after he swallowed three baby birds.
6. Strangest headline on Huffington Post this week is either Cross-eyed Opposum Eyes New Home or Woman Sneaks Man out of Jail in a Suitcase after a Conjugal Visit.
7. After 25 years of heading up our homespun cut and paste community newsletter, I have passed the torch as the primary layout editor. My farewell bio is below.
8. For me, Floyd has been synonymous with the Museletter for the past 25 years. Originally called the ERC and then CERC Newsletter, it was a big part of what brought me to Floyd from Texas via Boston. The community reflected in its pages helped cement that this was the kind of community I wanted to live in back in 1985. From day one of my arrival I worked on the Museletter monthly with various groups of people and coined the name A Museletter after visiting Susun Weed’s Amusing Muse Museum in New York. Most of my work on the Museletter has been as the primary layout editor. I have also consistently written for it, including a homeschooling column at one time, poetry and more. In fact, the Museletter has been my foundational training as a writer. Today I write for the Floyd Press, Natural Awakenings magazine and other local publications.
9. Line that popped in my head while making some alterations to my latest sundress: Black and white thread is the staple of my sewing basket like onions and potatoes are staples in my pantry.
10. I like to pick at food from the stovetop rather than fill up a plate like I like to make plans and then cancel them and feel relieved.
11. I don’t remember any band playing me like a drum from within like Anders Osborne at the Floyd Fandango did. My camera was also vibrating from within, which ruined some video clips I tried to take. This Sweden native who lives in New Orleans rocks guitar feedback like Jimi Hendricks but also sings sweet songs and writes hits for people like Tim McGraw.
12. “When you welcome what you’ve been running from, your life is no longer shaped by trying to avoid it.” ~ Kim Rosen
13. Playing footsie. Wait for it HERE.

You have such a lot of fun with your Beautiful Grandchildren, Colleen. I LOVED it when those little feet popped up…lol! And Bryce…he just keeps becoming more grown-up every time I see him…I know I sound stupid–cause that is what kids do…lol…But, I love witnessing it!
25 years of writing and ‘copy’ and ‘pasting’….You deserve a break, my dear, and it is so wonderful that you had these 25 years….! Floyd certainly has been a very fertile place for you and your enormous creativity!
#10 and #12…..Indeed, Indeed!
As alwys, my dear Colleen….a very rich T13!

Love #9 and #12. The first – made me laugh…such a wonderful analogy. The second – so much truth in the quote. I love these lists!!!

wow, big transition. I handed over my newsletter editorship about 7 years ago after doing it for about 10 years. I came across the box of proofs a few hours ago. Why keep them and yet, they stay.

I have all the museletters back 20 years ago. I wonder who cares or would ever want to see them. It’s such a history of our community that I can’t bear to toss them.

Thank you for all the years of Muse letters. I look forward to every one. Maybe the Floyd Library should have the collection.

You’re Welcome, Becky! The Museletter is still being done. Amy Avery is the primary muser now.
