I Got Punked
I got punked on Saturday by a Primland Resort photographer while attending Primland’s Golden Eagle Tree House ribbon cutting. My definition of “punked” is when I go to cover an event and take photographs and end up being photographed by someone else covering the event. This picture of me geocaching, a kind of treasure hunting in nature that involves a GPS device, was taken by my husband Joe and is not the photograph I’m referring to (which I was told could appear on the Primland website), but is one like it. I’m pictured here with Virginia Tech’s Aaron Teets, who created Primland’s geocaching course. We are reviewing a joke found in one of the hidden caches, which are filled with fun nature facts, puzzles and games: ‘How can you tell when a deer is broke? She doesn’t have a buck.’
I also posed for a picture on the back deck of the tree house with Primland co-owner/president Harold Primat and Joe. Harold and his seven siblings took over the stewardship of the eco-conscious resort after their father, Primland’s founder, passed away. Harold is a race car driver from Switzerland and that is a chestnut oak that the porch deck is built around. The porch is a literal perch with a bird’s eye view of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Dan River gorge. It was windy up there!
I’m working on a story of the Primland tree house dedication and trail opening day for this week’s Floyd Press. Meanwhile, HERE is the story I wrote last year about the opening of the Primland Spa. You can watch a video clip of the ribbon cutting HERE.

I have a good friend who goes geocaching almost every weekend and makes it sound like such fun! I’m going to have to try it one day.
I love that they have a course like that. Genius!

Must have been fun being in that treehouse with a good-lookin’ guy on each side, Colleen!

I did the geocaching with Nelson and a GPS here in Marshfield. It was fun and different…..looking for the clues and then finding the prize.
What prize did you get? This was years ago and I can’t remember…I think it was a paper and pencil.

He was showing me how it works for the photographer. I wasn’t actually taking the course but watching others for the story I was doing.
