The Mr. Right of Poetry
I look up words
like a single woman reads want-ads
looking for an eligible bachelor
as though my poem were a lover
looking for a partner
and I was a matchmaker
setting up a date

This made me smile. Me too – I’m always looking up ‘synonyms’…finding new words with which to express myself.

smiles…i think youmade a match…this was a fun one…the intimacy of our burden to write…

Extra sweet!!
And I can so relate as I am constantly looking up word pairs too. I pretty-much do it in all my poems — but shhh, don’t let my secret out okay? 🙂
And reading your sidebar, have you come to love your freckles??

wonderful analogies. Can’t quite discern whether you’re insulting the man-poet here or not… hehe

Oh…didn’t this make me smile! You have summed up that desperate search perfectly…I’m still smiling! I very much appreciate that. Thanks for a wonderful share!

No insults, just trying to find word combinations made for each other!
Freckles are the least of my problems.

such fun, yeah words I’ll look up too, but avoid those want ads like the flu..haha

Thanks for not looking up words that would make me have to look up the words in your poem! There is a sort of academic poetry that always seem to delight in that. While obscure words may expand the general “word horde,” I’d rather understand without the Oxford unabridged…

I guess most of us have a thing for words. This was a perfect metaphor.

Love this metaphor and I feel the same way about words/writing.

A very nice simile, Colleen. It sums up well my long-time affair with words. 🙂

Lovely, concise ode to logophilia (hopefully Charles won’t have to look that up – I am guilty of his mentioned crime 🙂 My ode is annotated but it’s a satire of academic poetry. Thanks for the smile.

I love this! The metaphor is perfect!
