13 Thursday: Online
1. My favorite part of writing is when I start to like what I’m working on. I recently wrote such a good article on a green insulation company for Natural Awakenings magazine that I actually had them come out to give me an estimate on my own recommendation.
2. I spent the weekend working on a story and waiting for the sun to shine so I could do some laundry. It never did so I made soup instead.
3. I’m on a toasted cracker with mozzarella, tomatoes, and pesto kick. I’ve been eating it every day for a couple of months and will continue to as long as the garden tomatoes last. Then it’ll be apple crisp.
4. I got a comment on last week’s Thirteen Thursday saying that my list was a weird mix of funny and scary stuff. “I call it the “Mash” model, a mix of comedy and serious drama,” I answered.
5. “The small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan is known internationally for two things: high visa fees, which reduce the influx of tourists, and its policy of promoting “gross national happiness” instead of economic growth.” This is for real. Read more HERE.
6. I wonder why they aren’t using Ron Artest’s legal name “Metta World Peace” on Dancing with the Stars.
7. I’ve been fascinated by how sounds in nature can be soothing and how the brain knows the difference between those sounds and unnatural noise like TV, which can be draining. Because I have energy deficiency and can’t afford to waste it, I’ve noticed how people’s voices can be either soothing or draining. The sound of children playing always strengthens me.
8. “I’m thinking that thinking without thinking about what we’re thinking is only thinking that we’re thinking and not really thinking at all.” Posted on Facebook by Dharmacratic friend Will
9. De-Mock-Crazy. Ain’t it grand? ~ Also on Facebook by Pat.
10. Age activated attention deficit disorder: Do you have THIS?
11. The first time I saw a woman shopping in flannel pajamas I thought she was sleepwalking on Ambien. I saw it since then and then again yesterday at Best Buy, and so now I’m thinking it must be a kind of fashion fad like pulling down your pants and showing your underwear or wearing a baseball cap backwards.
12. I recently bought some weights to ward of osteoporosis, but I’m wondering why carrying 3 pound weights in each hand is good for you but gaining 6 pounds isn’t.
13. A soundtrack of birdsong / a wireless wind / I’m tuned in / to the virtual reality / of sunlight warming blossoms open / and borderless skies of turned up violet / I’m plugged in / to the solar powered village / of moon and star / to the data base of the highest technology / I’m turned on / to the smart reality / in the real world wide web / of earth’s diversity / with fragrant green / life size trees / and all the very best / in graphics ~ written before I had a computer and when I didn’t want one.
More posting 13 on Thursday HERE.

7. you’ve got me thinking about that too. listening to Chopin, you can hear the birdsong influence. without birdsong in so many people’s lives, would composers channel emergency sirens into the music? I don’t think so. I think they’d reach back to some natural sound as inspiration.

Oh, yeah. I know that feeling in writing when suddenly words and paragraphs and plot come together. Happy TT!

The sound of children’s laughter is always a mood elevator for me. I find some people’s personalities and voices, energy zappers. I must stay away from these types.
I love number 13.
Happy T13!

Sliding by via Rekaya blog. I too have notice how the brain respond to nature and soothing sounds than other music.

I just had #3 last night for dinner. I am on a kick too. Love them as I loved the spaghetti and fish with feta.
#10 is what we do when we had no sleep the night before or not sleeping well at all.
#12 is sort of an oxymoron, but it strengthens our bones as fat doesn’t!!! xox

Oh, I love the idea of national happiness as opposed to economic health. What a great thing to measure. I fear that the US would not fair well on that score, though. Most people I know seem to be miserable about something.

#13 is just beautiful! 🙂
And national happiness…it’s such a possibility for this country if we could only get over the idea that what makes an individual happy is the responsibility or burden of another, rather than a personal experience to be kept that way…
Happy T13,

Wait you mean economic growth doesn’t automatically equal happiness, and vice versa? It’s difficult for me to grasp this concept as an American.

Did you mean to post your comment on Global Warming is Hell to Pay, Elliot? I think there is a natural ebb and flow to everything. Constant economic growth doesn’t seem sustainable to me and I believe it is a burden on the planet. I know the line I used seems counter intuitive in today’s poor economy. I wrote the poem about 10 years ago.

i love the focus on happiness.
oh dear at the AAADD – big OCD component at play in there, and it becomes so overwhelming that nothing gets done properly.
missed those cuties in their videos.
