13: If the Shoe Fits Wear It
1. While researching cameras recently I kept coming across the term “hot shoe” and had to look it up. It’s the slot on the top of some cameras where a flash attachment goes.
2. Speaking of shoes, get a kick out of THESE.
3. I learned another new term this week when Tabor of One Day at a Time complimented THIS photo of mine and told me it looked so miksang.
4. Watch THIS trick. It’s funny.
5. The movie In Time, which Joe and I saw this weekend, was perfect metaphor for the economic inequality of these times. In the movie time is the currency and when you run out you die. As soon as the people in the ghetto get ahead, the powers that be raise the rates of everything so more rich people can be immortal.
6. Exist and Exits about sums life up like evil is live spelled backwards.
7. There are video clips all over the internet of high fashion models walking down runways in freaky high heels and falling down. They’re posted to be funny but I think they’re demeaning to women and about as funny as Chinese foot binding, the tradition (now outdated) of breaking the toes and folding them under the foot with binding in order to give the appearance of having small feet, a status symbol.
8. “Medical reports suggest that high heels could lead to foot deformities, posture problems, neck injuries and permanent damage in some cases. A 2001 Harvard study also found that high heels can set the stage for osteoarthritis of the knees … A worrying trend is that women are getting cosmetic surgeries to fit into their Manolo Blahniks and Jimmy Choos.” More HERE.
9. While eating at Mickey G’s last week, a woman sitting behind us was surprised when she looked up from her meal and saw me because she was reading my blog post about restaurants in Floyd on her smartphone at the time.
10. Favorite Loose Leaf boot HERE.
11. The power of words, watch HERE.
12. Woohoo! I discovered I can still roller skate after not skating in 15 years. I think it’s probably easier than walking in high heels. See HERE.
13. A Native American on Daylight Savings Time: “Only the government would believe that you could cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it to the bottom, and have a longer blanket.”

I have never been a fan of high heels and seldom wear them. Actually I don’t even own a pair anymore. Just low heels, all the way. I value my feet more than I do how I look.

Hi Colleen,
Since four of your 13 items (five, if including #1) are about shoes and because you mentioned our recent serenditious encounter at Mickey G’s in #9, I must post a comment.
When my sister was the librarian at Vogue magazine in London, she assisted Manolo Blahnik with a photography project. As a thank-you for her efforts, she was offered a discount on Manolo Blahnik shoes when she visited Spain.
I don’t know the average retail price of a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes — because I live in Floyd, only wear comfortable shoes and, frankly, never heard of Manolo Blahnik shoes until my sister mentioned them — but the discounted price of the shoes would have been $250! Needless to say, she did not take advantage of the offer.
The shoes in your photo look more desirable than any high-fashion shoes!

Whoops! Meant to type “serendipitous” instead of the incorrect spelling “serenditious.” Yikes! The result of 4 fours sleep for the past two nights due to work deadlines!
