13: The Boasting Crocus
1. Seen on Facebook: Dear Algebra, stop asking us to find your X. She’s not coming back
2. Wayne Dyer on death: “I’m 71 and cramming for my finals.”
3. I saw my first crocus in the yard about a week ago when it was warm. Right now I have one brave daffodil in bloom that’s hunched over like a teenager with hair in her eyes.
4. Which do you like best, Purple Haze or Purple Rain?
5. Worst color for a toothbrush? Pink, because it’s too much like the color of bleeding gums.
6. Handwritten on the inside cover of my book of Mary Oliver’s poems: The poet’s answer to Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings.
7. I heard THIS song recently and was so stopped in my tracks that I ordered the CD on Amazon on the spot. It was part of the soundtrack of a friends wedding video and I thought it was Tom Rush. Jack Johnson loved this song so much that he recorded it too.
8. The photo to the right, which was taken during our trip to southern California and Hollywood, was the image that caused me to say in previous 13 Thursday: A long haired surfer in a wet suit is my kind of “man in uniform.”
9. I dreamt that Joe was having make-up put on for a TV shot, but when it was all done he was dressed in black leather, had a ponytail and looked like Steven Seagal. Meanwhile, I was in my purple terrycloth bathrobe.
10. The picture below reminded me of the time I said: Pelicans look like cartoon characters and when they crash down into the water to catch fish, it looks like slapstick.
11. The pelican picture was taken in Malibu where Joe and I stopped for about an hour to watch the largest nest of sea birds we had ever seen. See how many in THIS video, which I call The Flying Flock but on second thought I think it should be The Pillow Fight. Notice how they try to scare us off.
12. The boasting crocus / woke us singing / Dandelions were roaring / and bluebells were ringing / Loose-lipped tulips / made the red poppies blush / The iris joined the chorus / and the crabapples fussed / The daffodils were baffled / by the mourning dove’s weeping / Wagging dogwoods barking / kept the peepers from sleeping. ~ From The Zing of Spring
13. Personality color test HERE.

That last poem is precious. You should be very proud of it! The song is so you, I can see why you bought it on the spot. It just seems like the Colleen Redman I have discovered through her blog, although I think the refrain is a little arrhythmic…but maybe so are you?

I listened to all his songs and although I think he’s a great songwriter I also found him a little arrhythmic, maybe why he never hit the mainstream like so many who perform his songs have.. It’s also true that he may not have wanted the mainstream and that the arrhythmic thing kept him different/special.

I did the same thing with the song. Took me a while to track it down, but well worth it.

That color test is very interesting. I did the personality and the mood test; the mood one seemed more accurate, though.

I understand the ‘man in uniform’ comment now. 😀

Number four… I like both songs, depending on my mood. Haven’t seen any crocus here yet, but shouldn’t be long now, as mild a winter as we’ve had. Already seeing temps in the 60s here. The norm for March is mid-30 to 40s.
I have a musical topic this week: My blog

I loved this! You made me laugh and you made me think! I like Purple Haze a lot but I also like Purple rain a lot.

i so enjoyed this post as i do all your thurs 13 posts, colleen! the collections are always so imaginative and filled with a bounty of interests in so many directions! we have crocuses in bloom, too, but i can only find one purple. for some reason we are loaded with golden yellow. won’t be long before the daffodils open and spring is officially present and accounted for here in Seattle! our first tulips won’t open until mid-late april – we are about 4 weeks behind the east coast in spring and summer and earlier in fall and winter.

i thought the color test was uncanny, except when I got to the other options, all the coverage is broad enough to be uncanny.

I love Greg Brown, do a lot of his songs. You know he is married to Iris DeMent. Your description of the lone daffodill is great, I have a few over here trying to crouch out of the cold wind.

It was in part because of you, Chris that I bought the CD instantly. I do remember you telling me years ago that I would love his music. Whoda Thunk it??
Thank you, Sky. Your and other encouragement on the TT keep me going with them.
That’s funny, Chris. It shows how much we are of the same mold.

#1 – hilarious.
#5 – I don’t think I’ll ever look at my daughter’s pink toothbrush the same way again.
#13-I am 43 % extrovert and 57 % introvert. I also like yellow, but the test didn’t discuss that in its results.

I liked the test, but don’t think it is that accurate. Another wonderful TT!! xo
