13: The Write Stuff
1. “The jewel center of interest is the eye within the eye. Work from pithy middle eye out, swimming in language.” Jack Kerocauc
2. “That’s not writing, it’s typing.” Truman Capote on Jack Kerocauc
3. The E on my computer has worn off from the wear and tear of typing. Its disappearance has spread to the letter R. I don’t know if that’s because the R is the second most popular letter or because it’s right next to the E.
4. I once asked my brother why he thought the E’s always wear off on my keyboard and he answered: E-mail.
5. I’m sure the recent study that found eating too much red meat increases the risk of cancer didn’t take into account that the supermarket red meat is pumped up with growth hormones and antibiotics, which I’m sure does cause cancer. I think they should redo the study with grass fed meat beef, buffalo and venison.
6. I can’t help think about Soylent Green whenever they mention Green Slime in the news.
7. Best line of the week: You can’t ride two horses with one ass. ~ Dr. Phil on infidelity
8. A powerful poem for the legislators who are trying to take away women’s reproductive rights HERE.
9. For me, writing poetry is like dousing for a natural resource. I’m not afraid to dig deep and hit a nerve. In fact, I’m not satisfied until I do. By a nerve, I mean a vein of emotion that shows me that I’m about to mine a truth.
10. I’m so confident in my Irishness (note sidebar blog photo taken in Ireland with a shamrock pinned to my sweater) that I’ve been known to wear purple on St. Patrick’s Day. Read about my imaginary shamrock tattoo and how it showed up in a haiku HERE.
11. The fact that daffodil, frill and chill all rhyme hasn’t been lost on me.
12. My favorite Irish quote is this one from an Irish pool player named Danny McGoorty: I have never liked working. To me a job is an invasion of privacy.”
13. A stunning “first day of spring” collection of photos HERE.

I can’t see how the FDA consideres that pink slime safe when it has been “spritzed with ammonia.” Guess it’s a good thing beef is so expensive I can rarely afford it these days.
I’m posting on urban wildlife this week.

#7 My Dear departed friend Hanna, who was Hungarian, used to say that line you heard on Dr. Phil….She would say it in Hungarian and then English. And So very true, too…!

10. My mother always told me, “You don’t have to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, your name is Colleen Shannon.” 🙂

Is that your name?!
I usually say something similar. My name should be enough.

I can’t tell you how bummed I am the cherry blossoms will be gone by the time I visit in April (ironically for the Cherry Blossom festival LOL)
Imagine snow showing through the woods when a BEAR pops up out of the snow! YIKES!
That sure looks like more than ‘several inches’ of snow in Flagstaff!
That bumblebee in the pic from Germany looks like a flying mini buffalo!
